Darryl Johnson named 4A All-State honorable mention

Staff Report
Morgan City defensive lineman Darryl Johnson was named an honorable mention Class 4A All-State selection.
First-year Morgan City coach Dennis Lorio said Johnson, a senior and University of Louisiana at Lafayette commitment, was “very impressive from the day we got (to Morgan City). We felt like he compared favorably with some of the better players we coached.”
In fact, Lorio referenced Auburn starting offensive linemen Greg Robinson, who Lorio coached at Thibodaux High School, as one example, but added that Johnson has “a lot of room for improvement, room to grow.”
The Morgan City head coach said that other coaches of teams the Tigers played this season complemented Johnson.
Lorio noted that during Johnson’s senior year, he battled an ankle injury from week four on through the rest of the season.
“Darryl’s got a future … ULL may have gotten a steal,” he said. “I think over time some other schools are going to see that. We’re excited and happy.”
Class 4A state champion East Jefferson took two of the three individual awards as Ronald Green was Outstanding Offensive Player and Nick Saltaformaggio was Coach of the Year.
Gerald Willis of Karr was named Outstanding Defensive Player.
Morgan City’s district, 7-4A, also was represented by Vandebilt Catholic offensive lineman Tyler Bourque, a first-team selection, and honorable mention selections: Jarret Turner of Ellender (wide receiver), Dustin Creppel of Ellender (wide receiver), Cristian Wallis of South Terrebonne (running back), Patrick Watson of Vandebilt Catholic (place kicker), David McCormick of South Terrebonne (linebacker), and Jaharri Gahno of Ellender (defensive back).
