'Jacks roll past Panthers 61-37

A big first quarter gave the Patterson High School Lumberjacks a lead they would never relinquish en route to an easy 61-37 victory against Berwick High in District 8-3A action at Patterson Tuesday.
Patterson jumped out to a 21-6 lead to begin the game.
The scoring between the two teams was fairly even in the remaining three quarters as Patterson took a 37-18 lead into halftime and led 51-28 after three quarters.
The loss was the first in District 8-3A action for Berwick, 2-1 in district (13-9 overall), while Patterson (11-4 overall) improved to 2-0 in district play.
Nehemiah Augustus led Patterson with 14 points, while Taylan Grogan added 12.
Other scorers for the Lumberjacks included D.J. Jones and Jordan Butler, eight points apiece; Kenneth Washington and Khyri Harris, six each; Dajon Richard, four; and Tyric Garrett, three.
Silton Span led Berwick with 14 points, while Travis Whitehead added eight.
Other scorers included Audwin Williams, six; Tysin Meads, four; Donald Tillman and Larenz Clark, two each; and Tavaris Howard, one.
Berwick will return to action Friday when it hosts Kaplan. Girls varsity will begin at 5:30 p.m. with boys varsity to follow.
Patterson will return to action Friday when it travels to face E.D. White. Boys junior varsity action is set for a 5:15 p.m. start with girls varsity and boys varsity to follow.
Central Catholic routs Highland Baptist
The Central Catholic Eagles snapped an eight-game losing streak dating back to the middle of last month and picked up their first District 7-1A win of the season with a 74-15 win against Highland Baptist in Morgan City Tuesday.
Central Catholic took a 17-8 lead after a quarter and extended it to 42-12 at the half and 68-14 after three quarters.
The Eagles hit five three-pointers in the win and had four players reach double figures.
Tanner Wiggins and Elijah Swan led the Eagles with 15 points apiece, while Jalen Johnson scored 12 and Davidyionne Bias chipped in 10.
Other scorers included Brooks Thomas, eight; Seth Williams, six; Blake Byrne, four; and Tyler O’Con and Taylor Blanchard, two each.
Central Catholic (3-10, 1-2) will return to action Thursday when it hosts Vermilion Catholic in a 5 p.m. District 7-1A contest.
