St. Martinville tops MCHS in OT

Morgan City High School’s and St. Martinville’s first matchup last month went to overtime with Morgan City earning a victory.
When the two teams met Tuesday in Morgan City, the game went to overtime again, but this time, St. Martinville finished with the upper hand with a 60-55 victory.
St. Martinville rallied in the fourth quarter to force overtime Tuesday as the teams finished regulation tied at 51.
In the extra period, the visitors outscored Morgan City, 9-4.
The game was tied at 11 after a quarter, while Morgan City took a 28-26 lead at the half.
Morgan City led 39-37 after three quarters.
St. Martinville finished the game with seven three-pointers.
Makye Richard led Morgan City with 22 points.
Other scorers included Taaj Daniels, 12; Cedric Gant and Ke’sean Francois, eight apiece; Tywan Walker, three; and DeAndre Long, two.
Morgan City (10-8) will return to action Friday when it hosts South Plaquemines. Junior varsity action will begin at 6 p.m. with varsity to follow.
Berwick wins district opener
Berwick High opened District 8-3A play with a 79-53 victory against Franklin at Franklin Tuesday.
Audwin Williams led four Panthers in double figures with 24 points.
Other scorers included Larenz Clark, 14; Donald Tillman, 13; Travis Whitehead, 10; Cody Roberie and Tysin Meads, five apiece; Josh Carver, four; and Collin Louviere and Andrew Askew, two apiece.
Berwick (12-8 overall, 1-0 district) will return to action Friday when it hosts Erath in District 8-3A action.
Ellender routs Patterson
Ellender outscored Patterson in every quarter en route to an easy 82-50 victory in basketball action in Houma Tuesday.
Ellender led 22-12 after the first quarter, 38-26 at the half, and 60-39 after three quarters.
Ellender entered the game ranked No. 6 in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 4A power rankings, while Patterson is No. 7 in the 3A rankings.
Taylan Grogan led Patterson with 23 points, while Nehemiah Augustus also reached double figures with 17 points.
Patterson (8-4) will return to action Thursday when it hosts West St. Mary. Junior varsity action will begin at 5:30 p.m. with varsity boys to follow.
LCA eases by CCHS
Lafayette Christian defeated Central Catholic 77-47 in both teams’ District 7-1A opener Tuesday in Lafayette.
Lafayette Christian led 20-13 after the first period, 37-30 at the half, and 54-39 after three quarters.
No individual stats were available for Central Catholic.
Lafayette Christian entered the game as the top-ranked team in the Class 1A power rankings, while Central Catholic is ranked No. 26.
The Eagles (2-9, 0-1) will return to action Friday when they travel to face Centerville in a 6:30 p.m. District 7-1A contest.
