Berwick Junior High sweeps junior high championship relays titles

Berwick Junior High swept the team titles at the St. Mary Parish Junior High Championship Relays March 29.
The Panthers scored 155 points, while the Lady Panthers totaled 153 points.
Individually, on the boys side, Kelon Williams of Patterson Junior High was named Field MVP, while Kyle Valdez of Berwick Junior High was Track MVP. Morgan City Junior High’s Devonta Grogan was named Outstanding Performer.
Williams won the triple jump with a leap of 35 feet, 8 inches, while he finished second in the high jump with a 5-foot, 4-inch effort and second in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 2 inches.
Valdez won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:28, he finished first in the 1,600-meter run, clocking in at 5:12; and he was victorious in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:13.
Grogan won the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.46, and he was first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.37. He also won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 6 inches and the long jump with an 18-foot, 5-inch effort.
On the girls side, Arrianna Jones of Berwick Junior High and Kaylee Percle of Berwick Junior High were named Co-Track MVPs. Briyanna Butler of Patterson Junior High was the meet’s Outstanding Performer, while Amber Mora of Chitimacha was the Field MVP.
Jones finished first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.16 and was tops in the 400-meter dash at 1:09.17.
Percle finished first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:59 and also won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:39.
Butler finished first in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 8 inches; first in the long jump with a 13-foot, 4-inche effort and third in the triple jump with a 25 foot, 4-inch effort.
Mora finished first in the triple jump with a leap of 25 feet. 9.5 inches, second in the high jump with a 4-foot, 6-inch effort and sixth in the long jump with a leap of 11 feet.
