Patterson 10U All-Stars take Babe Ruth state title

Staff Report

The Patterson 10U All-Stars were perfect at the Louisiana Babe Ruth League State Tournament, winning the 10U title Saturday in Kenner after finishing the tournament with a 5-0 mark.
Patterson outscored its opponents 51-7.
Patterson gave up three of those runs in a 9-3 championship game against Pierre Part. No team scored more than one run against the local squad in its other four games.
“First off, we’re very proud of the girls,” Patterson coach Harris DeHart said today. “They came a long (way) this year. They turned out to be a very solid team, and it showed in the state tournament.”
Dehart said he knew he had a talented group heading into postseason but they exceeded his expectations.
“We didn’t think that we’d be as successful as we (were) going through the state championship undefeated, scoring that many points,” he said.
The squad now will advance to the Babe Ruth Regional in Harrison, Arkansas, which begins July 12.
Patterson opened the tournament Thursday morning with a 14-1 victory against Kenner.
Amaya Williams led Patterson with a double and a triple, while Kamille Lightfoot, Laila Dugar and Rylie Chasson each recorded a single.
Thursday afternoon, Patterson defeated Iberville, 8-1.
Emily Lipari and Williams each had two hits apiece, while Dugar had a double.
On Friday afternoon, Patterson defeated Westside, 10-1.
Lipari led the squad with three hits, including a home run. She also had two singles.

On Saturday morning, the squad defeated Pierre Part, 10-1, to advance to the championship game.
Lightfoot led the squad with a triple and a single, while Chasson had two singles. Williams added a double.
While Pierre Part advanced to the finals after knocking off St. Charles in an elimination game, the Assumption Parish team fell to Patterson, 9-3, Saturday afternoon.
