Roy family makes donation to St. Jude

Feb. 24, 2016
Dear Editor:
The family of Kenny Roy went to Memphis, Tennessee, over the holiday season to St. Jude Children’s Hospital to give a $4,500 donation. The Roy family holds a 7-8-year-old invitational baseball tournament every June to help fight cancer. The money raised is divided between St. Jude and Relay for Life.
Kenny Roy had a bone marrow transplant in Seattle, Washington, in January 1998. After fighting for two years, Kenny died in June 1998. Brooke Roy and Hannah Roy are his daughters and have always helped in the tournaments.
This year will be 14 years the family has honored Kenny’s memory by holding this tournament. The teams get a T-shirt and the honor of playing for a great cause.
While at St. Jude, the family toured the hospital. It was so amazing to see what Danny Thomas started in 1962, and it is still operating and growing every day. No child is turned away and families pay for nothing.
To be a sponsor of the Kenny Roy Tournament or to donate money to help fight cancer, call 985-519-5772 or 985-519-5773, or mail a check payable to Gloria Roy Special Account, 1212 Saturn Rd., Morgan City, LA 70380.
