Lady Panthers fall; Thibodaux wins Tiger Classic

The Berwick Lady Panthers fell to Teurlings Catholic Wednesday 65-17 at Catholic High-New Iberia’s tournament.
Berwick fell behind 16-0 by the end of the first quarter and scored just five points in the first half as it trailed 34-5 at intermission.
The Lady Panthers’ best quarter came in the third when they put up nine points, while Teurlings scored 16 for a 50-14 advantage heading into the fourth.
All but two of the Lady Panthers’ points came via 3-pointers.
Iesha Jones led the Lady Panthers with 6 points, while Mickenzie Reed added 5 and Brittany Boudreaux and Jenna Beiza each scored 3.
On Monday, the Lady Panthers fell to Westgate 52-15 at the tournament.
Boudreaux and Kayla Francise led the Lady Panthers with 5 points apiece.
The Lady Panthers (1-3) will return to action Monday when they host Covenant Christian.

The Berwick Panthers won the consolation title at Ascension Episcopal’s tournament with a 57-56 victory against Erath.
No individual statistics were available.

Thibodaux wins Tiger Classic
West St. Mary outscored Thibodaux 21-13 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough as the Lafourche Parish-based squad prevailed 74-66 to win the Morgan City High School Tiger Classic Wednesday.
West St. Mary entered the fourth quarter trailing 61-45 before making its move.
Prior to the fourth, Thibodaux had outscored West St. Mary in every quarter, jumping out to a 22-13 lead after one quarter and a 43-30 halftime advantage.
Four Thibodaux players reached double figures led by Leon Gordon’s 16 points. Natron Nora scored 12, while DeVaughn Brown and Dank Johnson each chipped in 11 points.
Other top contributors included Terrance Shelby with 9 points, Rayshad King, 6; and DeAndre Pharagood, 5.
Travis Jones led West St. Mary with 30 points, while David Robertson also reached double figures with 14 points.
Other top contributors included Thaddeus Gabriel with 8 points; Glenn Marsh, 5; and Kyle Jackson, 3.
In the third-place game, Franklin routed Jeanerette 86-49.
Franklin outscored Jeanerette in every quarter and put up 20-plus points in each quarter except the second when it scored 15.
After taking a 22-16 advantage after the first quarter, the Hornets extended their lead to 37-26 at the half and 60-35 after three quarters.
Franklin had three players reach double figures. A complete roster with names was unavailable.
The Hornets connected on eight 3-pointers in the contest.
Paul Richard and Darien Kiel led Jeanerette with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Other top contributors included Bryson Johnson, 8 points; Kerry Butts and Jahon Johnlewis, 4 apiece; and Abream Edwards, 3.
In the consolation final, Terrebonne edged South Lafourche 41-39.
Both teams were tied at 14 after a period of play, while Terrebonne took a 27-22 advantage into intermission.
Terrebonne slightly extended its lead to 36-30 after three quarters before South Lafourche rallied in the fourth with a 9-5 scoring advantage for the final.
Emonie Nelson was the lone Terrebonne player to reach double figures with 15 points, while Devlin Aubert added 9; Raikwon Fluker, 6; Justin Theriot, 5; and DaVaughn Gauno, 4.
Silas Griffin led South Lafourche with 22 points, including five three pointers; while Darian Washington scored 8; Brady Williams, 4; and Harvey Allen 3.
