Morgan City High School falls to Vandebilt Catholic in double OT

The Morgan City High School boys’ basketball team fell to Vandebilt Catholic, 87-84, in high school boys’ basketball action in Houma Friday.
While Morgan City led 50-47 heading into the final period, Vandebilt Catholic outscored Morgan City 18-15 in the final period to force overtime with the game tied at 65 at the end of regulation.
In the first overtime, each team scored 10 points to force a second overtime period with the score tied at 75.
In the last overtime period, Vandebilt Catholic outscored Morgan City 12-9 for the final margin.
Vandebilt Catholic led 18-16 after the first quarter, but by halftime, Morgan City had tied the game at 33.
Vandebilt Catholic hit 14 three-pointers in the win, while Morgan City totaled seven.
Makye Richard led Morgan City with 29 points, while Ke’sean Francois also reached double figures with 18 points. Other Morgan City scorers included Jared Singleton and Abram Hartley, nine points apiece; Taaj Daniels, six; Clifton Escort, five; and Deandre Grogan and DeAndre Long, four points apiece.
Morgan City (12-17 overall, 1-8 in district) will close its regular season Tuesday when it hosts Assumption in a 6:30 p.m. contest that also is a District 7-4A contest.
At halftime, Morgan City great, Dave Johnson, will have his jersey retired.
CCHS tops Hanson
CCHS defeated Hanson, 57-49, in District 7-1A boys’ basketball action on the road Friday.
Hanson hit 10 three-pointers in the win, while Central Catholic connected on six.
Brooks Thomas led three Central Catholic scores in double figures with 16 points, while Elijah Swan scored 14 and Blake Byrne, 11. Other Central Catholic scorers included Tanner Wiggins and Jalen Johnson, eight apiece.
Central Catholic (10-13, 8-4) will return home tonight where it will face Gueydan in a District 7-1A contest set for a 5:30 p.m. start.
