100th birthday honored

Mr. Simon Daniels of Franklin celebrated his 100th birthday on Wednesday with a surprise party hosted by the Franklin Senior Center. Simon received a letter of recognition from the City of Franklin, presented by Mayor Raymond Harris, and another from the State of Louisiana signed by Gov. Bobby Jindal; a key to the parish presented by Parish Councilman Kevin Voisin; and a cake with his picture on it from the Senior Center. Born Dec. 21, 1913 in Vacherie, La., Simon moved to Franklin when he was 8 years old. He and his wife Rose had six children and he retired from Sterling Sugar Co. at the age of 65. His daughters Dorothy Gordon and Mary Conley were present for the occasion. Simon is pictured above with St. Mary Council on Aging Executive Director Beverly Domengeaux and Mayor Harris.
