Regional play for 10s, 12s begins Friday

Area 10-year-old and 12-year-old teams will continue Dixie Youth play this weekend as they begin play in their respective regionals in either Ponchatoula or Winnsboro.
In 10-year-old action, St. Mary Central will compete in the AAA South Regional Tournament in Ponchatoula.
They will begin postseason play Friday with a 1 p.m. contest against Ville Platte, the District 7 champion.
Other teams competing in the South Regional include Franklinton Americans, Bossier City, Ponchatoula, Tioga, West Monroe North and Gonzales American. The double-elimination tournament will continue through Tuesday.
St. Mary Central advanced to the south regional after posting a 4-0 mark in district play en route to a District 3 championship.
The winner of the south regional will advance to face the winner of the north regional in the state Dixie Youth title game in Alexandria.
In 12-year-old action, Morgan City and St. Mary Central will begin postseason play Friday in Ponchatoula and Winnsboro, respectively.
Morgan City, the District 3 champion, will begin the tournament when it plays West Monroe North in a 3 p.m. contest. West Monroe North is the District 5 runner-up. Other teams in the south regional include host Ponchatoula, Ville Platte, Sabine, Harahan, Franklinton Nationals and Minden Continentals.
In the north regional, St. Mary Central, the District 3 runner-up, will open tournament play with a 1 p.m. contest against Pontiff Playground, the District 2 champion.
Other teams competing in the north regional include Union Parish, Alexandria, Vernon Parish Central, Monroe Americans, host Winnsboro and Franklinton Americans.
Each regional will continue through Tuesday when a regional champion will be crowned.
The winners of the north and south regionals will advance to face each other in the state Dixie Youth title game in Alexandria.
