Franklin man dies in crash on La. 182 in Bayou Vista

A Franklin man is dead following a single vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on La. 182 at Polaris Road near Bayou Vista, Louisiana State Police report.

At 4:55 a.m. Tuesday, 42-year-old Charles McFarlain of Franklin, was walking east in the westbound lanes of La. 182, police said.  A 2003 Honda Accord driven by 40-year-old Huy Nguyen of Abbeville, was traveling east on La. 182.  For reasons still under investigation Nguyen struck McFarlain, police said.

McFarlain was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Mary Parish coroner.  Nguyen was restrained and was not injured in the crash.

Louisiana State Law requires that all pedestrians walk on sidewalks when provided.  If no sidewalk is provided the law requires pedestrians walk as far to the left side of the road as possible against the flow of traffic.  Troopers also remind pedestrians that wearing light colored or reflective clothing will increase your chances of being seen by motorists.

While the results in this crash are still pending, Troopers remind pedestrians and drivers that impairment continues to be a leading factor in fatal crashes across Acadiana.  A person’s ability to make good decisions is diminished as alcohol is absorbed in the body.  Troopers will continue their education programs and enforcement campaigns to reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads.
