Homicide victim identified as Franklin man

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at 2:23 a.m. Monday about an unresponsive male in the roadway on La. 182 in the Sorrel area.

The man found dead Monday morning in the roadway with gunshot wounds in Sorrel has been identified as Jarnell A. McDaniel, 24, of Franklin, according to a news release from St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert.
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at 2:23 a.m. Monday about an unresponsive male in the roadway on La. 182 in the Sorrel area.
Deputies located McDaniel lying in the roadway on Sorrel Bridge Approach Road just off La. 182 in Sorrel. McDaniel was pronounced dead by the St. Mary Parish Coroner.
Jazmine Jamal Jackson, 23, of the 600 block of Anderson Street in Franklin, was arrested at 1:54 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant for first degree murder.
With the assistance of Franklin police and U.S. Marshals, Jackson was located walking on Main Street La. 182 in Franklin and apprehended without incident. Detectives believe Jackson drove the victim to Sorrel Bridge Approach Road and shot him.
