The 1933 Morgan City High School football team finished its season with an 11-1 record and fell to Jesuit, 6-0, in the state championship game. Morgan City defeated Plaquemine, Reserve, Hammond, Baton Rouge, Bogalusa, Abbeville, New Iberia, Ponchatoula, Houma, and Picayune, Mississippi.
Seven of Morgan City’s wins were via shutouts as the team outscored opponents 248-36. The team included, on the front row holding the ball, mascot Bubber Budge. On the second row, William Cullen, Joseph J. Russo, Ira A. Breaux, Ogden Stansbury, Rocco Russo (captain), Norman Stansbury
(alternate captain), Sam Russo; and Albert Thibodaux. On the third row are Warner Beadle, Raymond Gautreaux, Buster Smith, Albert Stansbury, Mansfield Cotton, Roland Breaux, Charles Fuhrer, Ira Driskill and Gus Polaski. On the back row are Coach J.E. “Fuzzy” Brown, Edgar Adams,

Jacolbi Francois, a junior at Morgan City High School, was selected as an offense and defense All-American football player and attended camp in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Saturday through Monday. Francois was one of the 20 selected among the 200 in attendance to be featured on 24/7 Sports of ESPN for a live interview. The interview aired Sunday and will replay on ESPN network. The Morgan City High School Tigers have been working this spring under new head coach and athletics director Scott Tregle (in the background of the photo immediately above), who was hired in January to lead the Tigers. Above is action from Monday’s practice. Morgan City will hold a spring game next week when it scrimmages Hanson Memorial at 6 p.m. May 22 at Tiger Stadium in Morgan City.
