BHS, CCHS compete in state tennis tournament

Berwick and Central Catholic have mixed reviews in the opening rounds of the state tournament in Monroe. The tournament was delayed three hours April 27 because of inclement weather.
Central Catholic’s Emma Thomas defeated Sydney Williams (Oak Grove) 6-4, 6-2 in the opening round of singles play. Thomas dropped her second-round match to Anna Lee (Cedar Creek) 6-4, 6-2.
Central Catholic’s doubles teams both took loses. Lindsee Case and Lynze Belle lost to Freeman/Marcus (Newman) 6-2, 6-0, while Ashley Daigle and Brooke Picou fell to Tarver/Pace (Holy Savior) 6-3, 6-3 in first-round play.
Berwick’s Riley Credeur lost his opening round singles match to Paul Sin (Loyola) 1-6, 0-6 while Nate Furlette won his first-round match beating Robert Ratcliff (Bolton) 5-7, 7-5, 6-2. Furlette dropped his second-round match to Chris Ander 0-6, 0-6. Olivia Orlando lost her first-round match to Lea Daigle (Jennings) 2-6, 2-6.
In doubles action, Berwick’s Mary Margaret Sanford and Claire Parsiola defeated Navarre/Istre (Iota) 6-0, 6-0 in the first round but lost their second-round match to Rodman/Armstrong (University Lab) 2-6, 5-7.
Also in doubles play, Berwick’s Allis Armato and Emma Gray lost to Kuehn/Moreno (St. Louis) 4-6, 6-4, 4-6 while Parker Felterman and Jeremy Boudreaux also dropped their first-round match 1-6, 2-6.
Morgan City is expected to take to the courts May 30.
