Morgan City AA All-Stars qualify for state

Morgan City’s AA (7- and 8-year-old) All-Stars advanced to the state tournament in West Monroe after finishing as district runner-up at the District 3 Tournament in Franklin Saturday.
Morgan City dominated its first three opponents, outscoring them 56-15 before falling in the championship game to Franklin, 17-10, Saturday.
“The kids worked hard for it,” Morgan City coach Keith Daigle said of the runner-up finish and advancement. “Earned it.”
The championship was a battle of 3-0 squads, but Morgan City couldn’t overcome errors and a slow start.
Chaz Pickens, 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI; Ja’Kavior Kemp, 2-for-3 with an RBI; Chaz’ Pickens, 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI; Bryan Cordero, 2-for-3; Jade Oliney, 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs; Lucas Pickens and Landyn Ramagos, each 1-for-3 with an RBI; Tate Fontenot, 1-for-3; and Jackmind Lind, two RBIs.
As the district runner-up to Franklin, Morgan City will return to action July 7 when it begins play in the Louisiana Dixie Youth AA State Tournament in West Monroe.
“It’s always good to keep playing,” Keith Daigle said of advancing.
In Wednesday’s tournament opener against Thibodaux, Morgan City won 21-1.
Morgan City connected on four home runs in the contest and used solid defense to secure the blowout victory.
Jamyre Bias, Lind, Fontenot and Kemp each homered in the victory.
Bias was 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs, while Fontenot and Lind each finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Kemp was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Other top offensive contributors included Chaz’ Pickens, 3-for-3 with an RBI; Lucas Pickens, 2-for-3, a double and two RBIs; Conner Daigle, 2-for-3, two RBIs; Cordero and Oliney, each 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI; Ramagos, 1-for-3, an RBI; and Kade Gagliano and Maddox Justilian, each 1-for-2 with an RBI.
On Thursday, Morgan City defeated Patterson, 14-3.
Lucas Pickens led Morgan City with a 3-for-3 performance with a triple and an RBI. Other top offensive contributors included Bias, 2-for-3, three RBIs; Ramagos, 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs; Fontenot, 1-for-3, two RBIs; Chaz’ Pickens, 1-for-3, an RBI; and Oliney, Cordero, Daigle, Lind, Gagliano and Justilian, all 1-for-3.
On Saturday morning, Morgan City knocked off St. Mary Central, 21-11.
Kemp finished 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs to lead Morgan City, while Cordero was 3-for-4 with a double. Other top offensive contributors included Lucas Pickens, 2-for-4 with two RBIs; Oliney and Daigle, each 2-for-4; Ramagos, 1-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs; Fontenot, 1-for-4, a double and two RBIs; Bias, 1-for-4, two RBIs; Lind and Justilian, each 1-for-3 with an RBI; Gagliano, 1-for-3; and Chaz’ Pickens, 1-4.
St. Mary Central finishes 3rd at district
St. Mary Central finished third at the District 3 AA tournament this weekend with a 2-2 mark.
After falling to Franklin 13-0 Wednesday, St. Mary Central bounced back with a 9-2 victory against Thibodaux Friday.

“We had a successful season,” St. Mary Central coach Duane Lodrigue said. “We had a bunch of kids work really hard and play some really good baseball. We fell behind in the first game, but the kids continued to fight and play, and we came out with two more wins in the tournament.”
On Wednesday against Franklin, Spencer Fuhrer, Gavin Darby and Parker Fitter each finished 1-for-1.
On Friday against Thibodaux, Louis Morgan Jr. led St. Mary Central with a 3-for-3 performance with two doubles, three RBIs and a run. Other top offensive contributors included Eli Lodrigue, 3-for-3, two triples, an RBI and two runs; Evan Crappell, 3-for-3, an RBI; Fitter., 2-for-3, two doubles, two RBIs and a run; Kaydon Rios and Ian Thorguson, each 2-for-3 with two runs; Fuhrer, 1-for-1, a run; Darby, 1-for-2, a double and a run; and Brennan White, 1-for-3, a run.
Saturday morning against Morgan City, Carson Thomas led St. Mary Central with a 3-for-3 performance with a home run, an RBI and two runs. Other top offensive contributors included Max Simmons, 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run; Fuhrer, 3-for-3, an RBI and a run; White., 3-for-3, two runs; Lodrigue, 2-for-3, a double, a triple, three RBIs and two runs; Thorguson, 2-for-3, a double, an RBI and a run; Morgan, 2-for-3, a triple and an RBI; Rios, 2-for-3, a double and two runs; Gunner Newcomb. 2-for-3; Crappell, 1-for-3, two RBIs; and Darby, 1-for-3, an RBI.
Against Patterson, St. Mary Central mounted a huge rally in its last at bat in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs for an 8-7 victory.
The game-winning hit was a home run by Thomas. Thomas finished 3-for-3 with a triple, a home run, four RBIS and two runs.
Other top offensive contributors included Thorguson, 3-for-3, a double, an RBI and a run; Crappell, 3-for-3, two RBIs and two runs; Simmons, 3-for-3, two runs; Morgan, 1-for-2, an RBI; Fitter and Fuhrer, each 1-for-2; Lodrigue, 1-for-3, an RBI and a run; and Rios, 1-for-3, a run.
