Patterson, CCHS win volleyball matches

The Patterson Lumberjills knocked off West St. Mary in four games in nondistrict play Tuesday.
Patterson will conclude its regular season today when it hosts E.D. White, ranked No. 2 in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s latest unofficial Division 3 power rankings.
Today’s junior varsity action is set for a 4:30 p.m. start with varsity action to follow at 5:30 p.m.
Patterson is ranked No. 26th in the latest Division 3 power rankings.
The top 24 teams in Division 3 — first- and second-place teams from each district and six wildcard selections comprised of the next highest seeded teams — will make up the playoff field.

The Central Catholic Lady Eagles recorded a perfect record in Division 6, District 5 action with a 25-10, 25-13, 25-13 win against West St. John in Edgard Tuesday.
Additionally, the Lady Eagles completed the district season without losing a set in any of their contests.
In Tuesday’s victory, Meo Knight led the Lady Eagles with 19 kills and two solo blocks, while Gee Garrett had 11 kills and two solo blocks and Kaitlyn Gros, 37 assists. Other top contributors include Olivia Crawford, three aces; and Brittany Longman, five digs.
Central Catholic, who remained ranked No. 3 in the latest unofficial Division 5 power rankings released Tuesday by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, will travel today to face Riverside Academy, ranked fifth in the latest Division 4 power rankings.
Junior varsity action in Reserve is set for a 4 p.m. start with varsity play to follow.
The Lady Eagles (27-8) enter the contest riding a 15-game winning streak.
As district champion, Central Catholic already has qualified for the postseason.
In other action today, Berwick (18-16 overall, 5-4 in district) and Morgan City (12-22, 4-5) will meet in a battle for third place in Division 3’s District 6.
A win by Morgan City would give them a tie with Berwick for the third-place spot, while a win for Berwick would give them third place outright.
While a postseason berth isn’t tied to the third-place finish, a win certainly wouldn’t hurt either’s power rankings as they eye possible playoff appearances via wildcard spots.
Berwick currently is No. 11 in the latest unofficial power rankings in Division 3, while Morgan City is No. 16.
E.D. White and Lutcher already have clinched the district champion and runner-up spots, respectively, in District 6 and thus have qualified for the postseason.
Today’s Berwick-Morgan City contest will begin with freshmen action at 3:30 p.m. in Berwick, followed by junior varsity and varsity play. It also will serve as Berwick’s Senior Night.
