Tim Hayles of Berwick finished second in Class C in the Louisiana State Singles Horseshoe Pitching Championships on Sept. 24 in Welsh. Hayles finished with a 4-2 mark and a ringer percentage of 26.3. He fell in a 40-shoe playoff with first-place finisher Mack Thibodeaux of Lake Arthur. Thibodeaux finished 5-1 with a ringer percentage of 27.5. Hayles wasn't the only Berwick resident to excel at the event as Ryan Fryou of Berwick won Class B with a 5-0 mark and a ringer percentage of 28.
