St. Mary Central, MC to meet in 12s title game

The St. Mary Central 12-year-old All-Stars finished its weekend undefeated with two dominant wins by a combined score of 25-3 to advance to today’s championship game.
After defeating Thibodaux 11-1 in four innings Friday, St. Mary Central run-ruled Patterson 14-2 in five innings Saturday to punch its ticket to the championship game where it will face Morgan City today at 5 p.m.
Both Morgan City and St. Mary Central already have advanced to regional round action, it’s just a matter of where each will play that will be determined today.
The District 3 champion will head to Metairie for the 12-year-old South Regional, while the runner-up will make the short trip to Franklin for the North Regional.
Morgan City will have to defeat St. Mary Central twice to win the district championship, because Morgan City dropped its opener of the tournament to Patterson, 9-8, Friday. St. Mary Central has to win just one game.
If St. Mary Central falls in the first game, the two teams will meet again at 8 p.m. in a winner-take-all contest.
In St. Mary Central’s opener against Thibodaux, St. Mary Central picked up the run-rule victory in four innings.
Hunter Landry and Seth Canty combined for a one hitter.
Landry tossed the first two innings and recorded one strikeout.
Canty pitched the final two and gave up the game’s lone hit, a home run. He fanned four in the win in the contest, retiring the game’s final three batters via strikeout.
Zeph DeLatte led the squad with a 2-for-2 performance with an RBI, while Zeph Hoffpauir and Dayton Clark each finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Other top contributors for St. Mary Central included Kyle Valdez, 1-for-3 with a double; Hunter Landry, 1-for-1; and Canty, Eric Guilliot and Evan Thomas, each an RBI.
On Saturday, St. Mary Central defeated Patterson 14-2 in five innings.
The game was scoreless going into the fourth, and St. Mary Central plated six runs in the frame and eight more in the fifth inning, including a three-run home run by Zeph Hoffpauir.
Patterson scored its two runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Zeph Hoffpauir earned the win for St. Mary. In four innings, he surrendered two runs on two hits with one walk, six strikeouts and hit three batters.
DeLatte pitched an inning of relief and surrendered a hit and fanned two.
Offensively, Hoffpauir led St. Mary Central with a 2-for-2 performance with a three-run home run and four RBIs.
Other contributors included Landry, 3-for-4, two RBIs and two doubles; Shayne Berger, 3-for-4; Clark, 1-for-4, three RBIs; Kyle Valdez, 1-for-3, two RBIs; Canty, 2-for-3, a double; Devon Leblanc, 1-for-2, an RBI; and Guilliot and Johnny Hamrick, each 1-for-2.
St. Mary Central batted .500 as a team during the contest.
Garrett Hotard suffered the loss for Patterson. No stats were available.
Morgan City rebounded from a 9-8 loss to Patterson Friday with dominant wins run-rule victories against Thibodaux Saturday (15-5 in four innings) and Patterson (10-0 in four innings) Sunday.
In Friday’s loss, Trent Hillen finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Dylan Tingle was 1-for-1 with a three-run home run.
Other Morgan City contributors included Luke Barbier, 1-for-2 with an RBI; Ryan Miller and Grant Stansbury each 1-for-3 with an RBI; Cade Booty, 1-for-2; Phillip Guarisco, 1-for-3; and Taylor Blanchard, an RBI.
Barbier, Hillen, Michael-Anthony Hill and Cade Booty all pitched for Morgan City in the loss.
On Saturday against Thibodaux, Guarisco led Morgan City with a 2-for-3 performance with a two-run home run and a three-run home run.
Other top contributors included Hill, 1-for-1 with a three-run home run; Barbier, 2-for-3, a double and three RBIs; Grant Stansbury, 2-for-2, a double; William LaRocca, 1-for-3, two RBIs; and Taylor Blanchard, 1-for-3, a double and an RBI.
Nathan Hebb earned the win on the mound for Morgan City.
In Sunday’s win against Patterson, Hillen and Hill each homered as Hillen was 2-for-3 with a three-run home run, while Hill had a two-run home run.
Other contributors for Morgan City were Barbier, 2-for-2, a triple; Taylor Blanchard, 1-for-2, two RBIs; Booty and Hebb, each 1-for-1; Miller, 1-for-2; Guarisco, 1-for-3; and Stansbury, an RBI.
Hillen started and threw three innings, while Barbier tossed the final inning as the duo combined for a no-hitter.
Patterson finished 1-2 this weekend at the district tournament.
After defeating Morgan City 9-8 in its opener, Patterson fell 14-2 to St. Mary Central in five innings Saturday and 10-0 to Morgan City in four innings Sunday.
