A 27-year-old Morgan City man was accused of breaking into an Egle Street residence Saturday and striking officers as they arrested him, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
—Ruben Evans Jr., 27, of Cherry Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:34 a.m. Saturday for simple burglary, criminal damage to property, simple assault, battery on a police officer, resisting an officer and public intimidation of a police officer.
Officers were dispatched to an Egle Street residence regarding a man attempting to break into the residence. Officers arrived and learned from the victim that Evans, an acquaintance of the victim, had attempted to enter the residence through the front door, Banks said.
Evans was reported to have gone to a window of the residence where he removed an air-conditioner and gained entry, Banks said. Once inside the residence, according to witnesses, Evans began to damage items inside the residence including electronic items and furniture, Banks said.
The damage was estimated at $780. Officers were unable to locate Evans in the area. About an hour later, officers received another call that Evans had returned to the same residence, Banks said.
Officers located Evans in front of the residence. Officers attempted to place Evans under arrest, but Evans began to resist officers. During the struggle, he struck officers and shouted threats to the officers and the complainant, Banks said. Evans was jailed.
Banks reported the following arrests:
—Tommy J. Rogers, 37, of La. 70 in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:04 a.m. Friday for driving while intoxicated third offense, possession of open container of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle and driving left of center.
Officers were dispatched to a complaint in the area of La. 70 in Morgan City in regards to a vehicle being driven in a reckless manner. Officers observed a vehicle as described.
The vehicle was stopped and the driver, Rogers, was detained. Rogers was observed to be in a reported impaired condition, swaying as he walked and stood and smelling of an alcoholic beverage. Rogers was unable to complete a field sobriety test, Banks said. Rogers registered .199 grams-percent blood alcohol concentration on an Intoxilyzer 5000 test and was jailed.
—Jordan L. Drury, 20, of Middle Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 1:45 p.m. Friday for possession of drug paraphernalia.
—Abbey L. Aucoin, 18, of Cottonwood Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:45 p.m. Friday for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers were dispatched to a Cottonwood Street residence in regards to removing a person. Officers learned that there were people staying at the residence without the owner’s permission. The complainant located suspicious items of what appeared to be drug paraphernalia and contacted police officers, Banks said.
Officers identified the suspects as Aucoin, who had been living at the residence, and Drury. Both admitted to possession of the items and were jailed, Banks said.
—Wentrell A. Thomas, 25, of Gates Drive in Franklin, was arrested at 2:17 a.m. Saturday for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
Officers were dispatched to a Roderick Street motel in regard to a person sleeping behind the wheel of a vehicle with the engine on, Thomas said. Officers arrived and located a man sleeping inside the vehicle. Officers made several attempts to wake the driver and eventually identified him as Thomas. Thomas was observed, according to reports, to be in an impaired condition. He was transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he submitted to an Intoxilyzer 5000 test which indicated a blood alcohol concentration of .129 grams-percent. Thomas was jailed.
—Burnell A. Narcisse, 49, of Trevino Street in Berwick, was arrested at 9:51 a.m. Saturday on warrants for domestic violence, resisting an officer and two counts of contempt of court.
An officer observed a vehicle traveling on La. 182 being driven by Narcisse, a wanted subject. Officers stopped the vehicle and detained Narcisse. Narcisse was jailed on the warrants.
—Harold E. Turner, 64, of Adams Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:10 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for probation violation, a warrant for failure to pay probation fee, introduction of contraband into a penal institution and possession of drug paraphernalia third offense.
Turner was transported to the Morgan City Jail where he was found to be in possession of a pipe commonly used to consume illegal narcotics hidden on him, Banks said.
—Wayne A. Lewis, 43, of Massey Lane in Belle Rose, was arrested at 6:55 p.m. Saturday for domestic abuse.
Officers were dispatched to a La. 182 apartment complex regarding a domestic disturbance. Officers arrived and were advised by witnesses that Lewis had become involved in a domestic dispute with a female at the residence. Lewis was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and incarcerated.
—Tony Weston, 39, of Fifth Street in Berwick, was arrested at 11:58 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for failure to pay probation fee and a warrant for probation violation.
Weston was located at the Berwick Police Department and was taken to the Morgan City Jail.
—Carlise T. Grogan, 24, of Sixth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:11 p.m. Sunday on a warrant for failure to pay probation fee and a warrant for probation violation.
Grogan was located at a Sixth Street residence and jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 97 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Leroy Bailey, 29, of the 1400 block of North Third Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:48 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of theft of goods. A deputy patrolling the Morgan City area made contact with Bailey and learned of the active warrant for his arrest. Bailey was jailed with no bail set.
—Susana Hernandez, 28, of the 200 block of Southwest Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 9:52 p.m. Sunday for animal cruelty. A deputy responded to a report of possible animal cruelty at a residence on Southwest Road. Upon arrival, the deputy observed a dog with open wounds and patches of fur missing.
During the investigation, the deputy identified the owner of the animal as Hernandez and determined that the animal was not being properly cared for. The dog was turned over to animal control. Hernandez was released on a summons to appear in court on Nov. 24.
—Tanner Aucoin, 18, of the 700 block of Carline Street in Berwick, was arrested at 2:14 p.m. Sunday for remaining where forbidden. A deputy responded to a request to remove a subject from a residence on Columbus Drive in Bayou Vista.
Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with Aucoin who had been advised during a previous complaint that he was not to return to the residence. The deputy transported Aucoin to the parish jail for booking. He was later released on a summons to appear in court on Nov. 24.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Joseph Lee Hart, 32, of the 400 block of Second Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:01 a.m. today for contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and disturbing the peace by fighting. Hart was jailed on $787 bail.
—Carlos Payton, 39, of the 100 block of Lipari Street in Patterson, was arrested at 12:01 a.m. today for disturbing the peace. Payton was released on $413 bail.
—Trevor James Tauzin, 18, of the 100 block of Bayou Vista Drive in Thibodaux, was arrested at 2:40 a.m. Sunday for speeding 75 mph in a 55 mph zone, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Tauzin was released.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
