Bucci teaches club members flower design techniques

“Simply Three” was the program for the Bayou Vista Garden Club March meeting. Donna Bucci, club president, presented the program demonstrating the principles and elements of flower design using the National Garden Club design study unit lesson plan on basic flower arranging.
She presented each member with a copy of the booklet. Members created individual vertical designs using three flowers and foliage.
Environmental Awareness Chairman Kim Alcina displayed wreaths using recycled garden hoses. Decorative elements such as gloves, watering cans, seed packets and small garden tools were added.
Jean Chauvin, horticulture chairman, conducted a member plant exchange. Members provided propagated starter plants and included botanical names with instructions on the plant’s cultivation. Chauvin also reminded members that now is the time to finish pruning summer flowering trees and shrubs.
Hostesses were Jennie Aucoin and Dawn Thomason. Aucoin and Thomason collaborated on the March design, “Spring Beginnings.”
The pot et fleur, a combination of potted plants and fresh cut flowers, included potted orchid, daffodil, Gerber daisy, tulips and calla lily. The cut elements were alstroemeria, curly willow and asparagus fern.
Mary Myers was the door prize winner. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. April 7 at the Bayou Vista Community Center.
