AT&T announces more than 500 new jobs filled in La. in 2014

BATON ROUGE — AT&T has announced that it has hired more than 500 new employees — and filled nearly 1,000 jobs in Louisiana in 2014. Further, the company has hired more than 26,000 people across the U.S. during that same period.
In addition to those jobs already filled in Louisiana this year, AT&T currently has more than 140 openings available across the state. More than 100 of those openings are newly-created jobs in areas including call centers, retail support, technicians and corporate support.
Much of the hiring has been spurred by AT&T’s Project Velocity IP (VIP). Project VIP is an investment plan to expand and enhance IP broadband networks to support customer’s growing desire for mobile, ultra-fast and reliable access to everything on the Internet, particularly video.
“AT&T’s continued investment in broadband across Louisiana not only brings more opportunities for job training through distance learning programs in our communities, but also creates more competitive jobs in our state,” stated Curt Eysink, executive director for the Louisiana Workforce Commission. “Having a robust broadband technology infrastructure across Louisiana is also an important factor for additional companies looking to relocate or expand their business in our state which will continue to drive our job market.”
