Brown earns hoop honor

Staff Report

New Orleans Privateers women’s basketball player Randi Brown was named the collegesportsmadenss.com Southland Player of the Week Monday.
Brown, a freshman and former Central Catholic High School standout, posted 52 points in two games last week for the Privateers.
Brown started her week Thursday while helping guide the Privateers to their first road victory of the season.
Brown dropped a career-high 30 points on 10-of-18 from the field and 5-of-11 from three-point range in a 76-64 win against Southeastern.
It was the first time a Privateer went for at least 30 since Keri Thomas did it in February 2012.
On Saturday, Brown scored 22 points against Northwestern State.
After going 1-for-5 from the field in the first half, Brown heated up in the second half while helping New Orleans commence a huge rally that fell short.
Nineteen of Brown’s 22 points came in the second half.
The Southland Conference also announced Brown was an honorable mention selection as the league’s Player of the Week this week, as voted on by the Sports Information Directors of the league’s schools.
The Privateers hit the court again Thursday against Nicholls to continue a four-game home stand.
