CCHS alum Landry shines in 1st weekend with Nicholls Softball

Staff Report

Former Central Catholic High School standout softball pitcher Megan Landry had quite the opening weekend in her college debut for Nicholls State this weekend.
Landry tossed a no-hitter in her first action, an 11-0 run-rule victory for Nicholls against Mississippi Valley State at Southeastern Louisiana University’s Lion Classic Friday.
Landry earned the win as she allowed just two base runners, issuing a walk in the first inning and another reached on an error in the second. From then on, the Pierre Part native retired the next 11 batters en route to the no-hitter.
The offense spotted Landry three runs in the first and exploded for seven runs in the third to put the run-rule into play. Nicholls added one more in the fourth before Landry ended the game with back-to-back strikeouts.
Landry came to Nicholls as a highly touted recruit from Central Catholic. She was a four-time all-state honoree and was named Class 1A MVP in 2015 after leading her team to a state championship. She tossed five no-hitters alone in her senior season and had one perfect game.
On Saturday in Nicholls’ 13-4 victory against Tennessee State in five innings, Landry improved to 2-0 as she earned the win on the mound in relief. In 2.1 innings, she surrendered one hit and fanned two. Her two strikeouts came on the game’s last two batters.
Landry also pitched two innings of relief in the Colonels loss to Tennessee-Martin, Nicholls’ first of the season as the squad dropped to 4-1 overall. Landry pitched two innings and allowed one hit and fanned one in Sunday’s loss.
Nicholls will return to action Sunday when it plays at home Wednesday against Jackson State in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. Admission to all home Colonel softball games is free of charge.
