Colonels picked to finish 10th in SLC preseason polls
Coming off a winless conference campaign, the Nicholls State University football team has been picked to finish 10th in the Southland Conference standings as the league office revealed its 2015 preseason polls today at Media Day at L’auberge Resort.
The Colonels, who finished 0-8 in the league last season and 0-12 overall, edged Houston Baptist in the coaches’ poll by one point with 16 overall points and were eight points better in the Sports Information Director poll with 20.
Sam Houston State was picked to finish first in both polls, collecting 17 first-place votes. McNeese State and Central Arkansas each earned a first-place vote in both polls, while Southeastern Louisiana received one in the coaches’ poll.
Nicholls opens conference play Sept. 19 at Incarnate Word, which finished one spot ahead of the Colonels in both polls.
The Colonels begin the 2015 schedule at in-state rival ULM and will make their home debut Oct. 3 against McNeese State. Season tickets are available at geauxcolonels.com or by calling the ticket office at 985-448-4790.
