Jones earns weekly honor

Southwest Baptist University freshman wide receiver Jaylen Jones has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Special Teams Athlete of the Week, as released by the conference office Monday.
Jones becomes the first Bearcat to be named GLVC Special Teams Player of the Week following an impressive outing last Saturday in Southwest Baptist’s 52-0 win against NAIA's No. 21-ranked Friends University. The Morgan City native returned the lone kickoff to Southwest Baptist 94 yards for a touchdown for his first of the season. Jones also had two punt returns for a combined 43 yards, including a 42-yard return to set Southwest Baptist up for their first points of the game in the first quarter.
In two games this season, Jones, a Morgan City High alum, has seven kickoff returns for 210 yards and one touchdown, averaging 30 yards per return.
He also has three punt returns for 43 yards for an average of 14.3 yards per return.
