Knight leads Bama in scoring in loss

The University of Alabama women’s basketball team fell to top-ranked South Carolina, 102-59, Thursday evening at Foster Auditorium.
Alabama freshman guard Meoshonti Knight, a Central Catholic alum, led all Crimson Tide scorers with 16 points. She also contributed two rebounds and assists.
Sophomore forward Ashley Williams also scored in double-digits, contributing 10 points before exiting in the second half due to injury. Senior forward Briana Hutchen led the effort on the boards for Alabama with six rebounds.
For the game, South Carolina shot 63.8 percent (37-58), while Alabama was 37.3 percent (19-51) from the floor. The Gamecocks narrowly outrebounded the Tide, 30-26, but South Carolina forced 17 Alabama turnovers and only committed seven. University of Alabama was 77.3 percent from the free-throw line, hitting 17 of 22 attempts.
Alabama (11-7 overall, 0-3 in SEC play) and South Carolina traded baskets during the first nine minutes of the game before a 10-3 run for the Gamecocks gave them a 25-18 lead with 8:24 remaining in the period.
The Tide cut its deficit to four, but South Carolina would outscore Alabama, 23-9, to take a 48-30 advantage into the locker room at the half.
The Gamecocks continued to distance themselves from the Tide in the second half, pulling in front by as many as 47.
Next up, the Tide hits the road Sunday, traveling to Oxford, Mississippi, to take on the Ole Miss Rebels. Tipoff for the conference contest is set for 2 p.m., and it will air on SEC Network +.
