Lions hold first football practice Monday

Staff Report

The Southeastern Louisiana football team opened its preparations for the 2015 season Monday with the first practice of fall camp.
The Lions worked for several hours under the Strawberry Stadium lights as the team began preparations for its Sept. 3 season opener at Southland Conference foe Northwestern State. Southeastern returns 45 letter winners and 15 starters from last season’s team, which finished 9-4 overall, advancing to the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs and winning the Southland championship for the second straight season.
While the roster features a talented veteran group, a number of newcomers will be looking to make an immediate impact. One of the new faces making a debut Monday was 6-6, 300-pound offensive lineman Taylor Gadbois.
Gadbois, a Dallas, Georgia, native, came to Hammond after spending his first two seasons at Football Bowl Subdivision member Miami (Fla.). Last season, Gadbois started five games at right tackle before suffering a season-ending injury.
Gadbois signed with Miami out of East Paulding High School. He was ranked a three-star recruit by Rivals.com and Scout.com, which ranked him the nation’s No. 53 offensive tackle. Gadbois, who was also named a two-star prospect by ESPN.com, will be joining a veteran offensive line that returns starters Joe Graves, Taylor Romero, Josue Miranda and Aaron Reed.
The Lions will continue fall practice today with a 7 p.m. workout.
