Long named LSWA Player of the Week

After averaging a double-double for the week, UL-Lafayette’s Shawn Long has been named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Player of the Week.
The Morgan City native made the most of his 21.5 minutes per game as he helped the Ragin’ Cajuns pick up home wins against Louisiana Tech and Centenary.
Long shot 71.4 percent from the floor, and in the two contests, he averaged 23 points and 11 rebounds per game as Louisiana posted a 2-0 mark last week.
Against Louisiana Tech on, he turned in his second straight double-double with season highs of 24 points and 15 rebounds, hitting 10 of 16 shots from the field.
Three days later on Saturday against Centenary, he needed just 19 minutes to go 10-for-12 from the floor for 22 points and seven rebounds, including his first three-point bucket this season.
The Cajuns set a new school record with 16 threes in a 115-59 rout of Centenary.
It is the third time in Long’s career he has earned the weekly honor from the LSWA.
Long and the Ragin’ Cajuns close out non-conference play Saturday against Northwestern State in Natchitoches.
