Louisiana Tech Bulldogs hold spirited practice in Fort Worth

Staff Report

The Louisiana Tech football team hit the practice field at Burleson Centennial High School in Fort Worth, Texas Tuesday in its first bowl-week practice in preparation for Friday’s Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl against Navy.
“I like where the team is right now,” Louisiana Tech Head Football Coach Skip Holtz said in a news release following practice. “We are excited to be here in Fort Worth, and the people here have been great. Everyone with the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl has been absolutely awesome to deal with.”
After arriving in Fort Worth, Texas, Monday, the Bulldogs had the evening off before loading up on busses at 10 a.m. Tuesday for practice right down the road.
“They have beautiful facilities and two nice turf fields,” Holtz remarked about Burleson Centennial High School. “We had our last day in pads, and it was a very spirited practice with a lot of energy. (Wednesday) we will start to polish some things up and get ready to play the game.”
Holtz and company opened practice with 30 minutes spent on the kicking game before moving into 40 minutes of scout-team work. The Bulldogs capped things off with one-on-one and two-on-one team drills.
“That is the most important thing to do while we are here, just polishing some things up on the defensive side of the ball,” Holtz said. “This offense we are about to play is so unique and assignment oriented that we just need to get as many looks at it as we can. I like the attitude with (our defense) right now in playing this offense. I wish we had another week to practice for it, but thank goodness we did not just have three or four days to practice for it.”
Several Bulldogs participated in a volunteer event with the American Red Cross before the team regathered for a welcome dinner at Billy Bob’s Texas, a Fort Worth barbeque restaurant.
LA Tech will take on Navy Friday at 3:30 p.m.
Central Catholic High alum Lloyd Grogan is a redshirt senior linebacker for the Bulldogs.
