LSU Eunice holds on to beat Scottsdale Community College

Sam Walley struck out the final two batters he faced in the bottom of the ninth inning as top-ranked LSU Eunice held on for a 5-4 win against Scottsdale Community College Monday afternoon at David Allen Memorial Park in the NJCAA Division 2 Baseball World Series.
The stormy weather over the opening weekend forced the schedule to change and moved the Bengals' first game from Sunday to Monday.
LSU Eunice now will face the Kellogg — UCONN Avery Point winner at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Bengal starter Mitch Sewald earned the win as he struck out six, walked four and allowed three earned runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings of work.
Zack Hamilton pitched 1.1 innings, striking out two and allowed one hit, while Walley fanned two and allowed one hit in the final frame.
The Bengals jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Nick Coomes doubled to center and scored on a sacrifice fly by Madison Nickens.
Callahan Moltzan homered to open the bottom of the second before Kenny Finn walked and scored on a Will Frei single to give Scottsdale a 2-1 advantage.
Steven Sensley slammed his 19th home run this season over the right field wall to force a 2-2 tie in the top of the third inning.
The Bengals pushed ahead 3-2 in the top of the fourth when David LaFleur doubled and scored on Trey Caswell's ground-out.
LaFleur hit his fourth home run this season to give LSU Eunice a 4-2 margin in the top of the sixth inning.
The Bengals added a crucial run in the top of the seventh as Brennan Bozeman walked and crossed home plate when Nickens doubled to right field.
Scottsdale battled back in the bottom of the frame when Justin Erlandson doubled and scored when Adam Wolfe singled to right to close the gap to 5-3.
The Fighting Artichokes rallied for a run in the bottom of the eighth when Finn reached on an error and scored on Frei's hit to centerfield.
But Walley and the Bengal defense stiffened in the bottom of the ninth to preserve the LSU Eunice win.
David LaFleur went 2-for-2 with a RBI and two runs, while Sensley went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
