LSU rounds out 2018 non-conference schedule

Staff Report

LSU rounded out the non-conference portion of its 2018 football schedule with the addition of Louisiana Tech, Southeastern Louisiana and Rice University, Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva announced Thursday.
LSU previously announced the Tigers will open the 2018 season against Miami (Fla.) at the Cowboys Classic in Arlington, Texas, on Sept. 1. The game will mark LSU’s fourth appearance in AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
The Tigers will host Southeastern Louisiana Sept. 8 in Tiger Stadium in what will be just the second meeting between the schools. LSU beat the Lions, 48-7, in 1949 in Tiger Stadium in the only other contest between the teams.
“We want to continue to schedule teams from our state when possible, which allows resources to remain in the state and the fans in Louisiana to experience the best venue in the country, Tiger Stadium,” Alleva said in a news release.
LSU hosts Louisiana Tech on Oct. 20, and the Tigers round out the non-conference portion of the 2018 slate against Rice University on Nov. 17 in Tiger Stadium.
LSU is 18-1 all-time against Louisiana Tech with the last meeting coming in 2009.
LSU and Rice will renew an old rivalry that has seen the schools meet 55 times in football, the last coming in 1995. When LSU and Rice square off on Nov. 17, 2018, it will be exactly 103 years to the day since the first contest between the teams — a 6-0 Rice win in Houston in 1915.
LSU and Rice played every year from 1932-52 and then again from 1961-83. LSU leads the series with the Owls, 37-13-5. The Tigers won the most recent contest between the teams by a 52-7 count in 1995 in Tiger Stadium.
The conference portion of the 2018 schedule will be released by the Southeastern Conference at a later date.
