The LSUA Generals swept Mobile this weekend on the baseball diamond.
LSUA won 8-7 Friday in 10 innings before picking up
Locally, Morgan City High alum and LSUA redshirt freshman Brady Fryou finished the weekend 4-for-9 with a double, a triple and two RBIs.
LSUA won Friday despite being down four runs with one out in the bottom of the ninth.
LSUA hurt itself in the first inning, allowing two Rams to score on a wild throw to give Mobile an early 2-0 lead.
With the starting pitchers in control, it took until the fifth inning for another run to come across as Joseph Barnett's triple scored Mason Schoettlin to give the Rams a 3-0 lead.
The Generals dented the scoreboard in the bottom half of the inning as Ty Desormeaux's sacrifice fly gave LSUA its first run. Taylor Faulk's RBI single scored Derek Boehnke to pull the Generals to within 3-2 through five innings.
But Mobile pulled away in the sixth and seventh innings, putting up a two-spot in each frame.
In the sixth, Cody Waters scored on a LSUA error, while Logan Palmer came across on JT Peddrick's sacrifice fly.
Barnett started the seventh with a triple and came home on Norberto Torres's double for LSUA Torres scored on Cody Waters' RBI groundout for a 7-3 Ram lead through seven complete.
With the bases empty and two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Ty Desormeux started the rally as he drew a walk. Fryou and Taylor Faulk also walked to load the bases.
Tyler Mathis's single scored Desormeaux and pinch runner Drew Brown to cut the deficit to 7-5.
After another walk loaded the bases, Joseph Trahan singled to right-center to tie the game as Faulk and pinch runner Ziggy Sloan touched home to force the extra inning.
After getting the Rams up and down in order in the 10th, Blake Garrett started the Generals half of the inning with a double down the right field line. Pinch runner Trevor Russell scored on a wild pitch that got just far enough away from the Rams catcher to allow him to score the winning run.
Braylon Dore (1-0) got the win as he threw the ninth and 10th innings without giving up a hit or walk and struck out three Ram batters. Starting pitcher Kael Jones threw four innings of no hit ball, though he was tagged with two unearned runs. He struck out seven and walked seven before being relieved in the fifth inning.
Faulk went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Tyler Mathis and Trahan each had two RBIs.
Saturday, LSUA and Mobile went to extra innings again in game one of a doubleheader, with the Rams winning game 1, 5-4, before LSUA took game two, 6-4.
In game 1, Mobile jumped out fast with a run in the first, second and third innings. In the first inning, it was a bases loaded walk that score Peddrick.
In the second inning, Corey Wheaton's single scored Logan Palmer. The third run came on Mason Schoettlin's lead-off home run to start the inning.
The Rams added to it in the sixth as Mason Schoettlin's single scored Wheaton. But as this week has proven,
In the bottom half of the inning, Faulk's single scored Derek Boehnke to pull the game within 4-1.
Facing their final three outs, Fryou's no-out double scored Kris Tamplet and Desormeaux.
Faulk tied it as his single plated Sloan for a 4-4 score to force the extra stanza.
But a Generals mistake was their undoing as a misplayed grounder allowed a run in, a run that LSUA had no answer for in the bottom half of the inning.
Blake Garrett (0-1) took the loss, giving up a hit and an unearned run in the eighth inning.
Faulk was the lone General with more than one hit, going two for three at the plate with two RBIs. Fryou knocked in a pair of runs.
Game two started a bit faster for LSUA, taking their first lead of the series during regulation, as Trace Oliva doubled in Faulk for a 1-0 Generals lead after one. LSUA added to it in the fourth as Trey Caswell's single scored Trace Oliva.
LSUA added a third in the fifth as Trahan's infield single scored Sloan to make it 3-0 through five full innings of play.
Not to be outdone in the area of comebacks, the Rams evened the game up in the sixth inning with three runs of their own. An error helped bring in Brett Glover, then Wheaton singled in both Palmer and Chris Hopballe.
LSUA had an answer through, getting all three runs back in the bottom half of the inning. Blake Garrett's single scored Brown. The big blow came courtesy of Faulk as his single scored Garrett and Sloan to put the Generals up 6-3.
Mobile would get one across in the top of the seventh, but Kale Parks closed out the Rams to collect the save.
Josh Gray (1-0) collected the win in game two, throwing two-thirds of an inning and allowed just one hit. Starter Cole Feazell went 5.1 innings, struck out seven and was charged with three earned runs in getting a no decision. Parks allowed one hit and one unearned run and struck out four to collect his first save of the season.
LSUA (7-1) heads to Joplin, Missouri, where it'll meet up with Northwestern College of Iowa for a four-game series next weekend. First pitch of Friday's doubleheader is set for 1 P.M.
