McNeese State beats Stephen F. Austin 69-38

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) — Diontae Spencer scored five touchdowns, including two receiving, one punt and two kickoff returns, to lead McNeese State to a 69-38 victory over Stephen F. Austin on Saturday night.

Spencer caught seven balls for 152 yards and had receiving TDs of 10 and 9 yards. Spencer returned two kickoffs in the first quarter — the first for 93 yards and the second for 87. He capped his scoring with a 35-yard punt return in the fourth.

Spencer set a single game school record for totaling 365 all-purpose yards and another for his two kickoff returns in one game. He tied an FCS record for the most return TDs in one game.

"The coaches did a great job getting us ready for this game especially after the way we played last week," said Spencer. "Everyone did a great job with their blocking assignments on the returns and Cody (Stroud) was great with the passes."

Stephen F. Austin led 24-14, but McNeese State (8-2, 4-1 Southland) rattled off 27 unanswered points and led 48-24 with 7:54 remaining in the third quarter. Cody Stroud tossed three second-quarter touchdowns during that run — of 71, 4 and 10 yards. Stroud finished with 333 yards and four touchdowns for McNeese State. Stroud set a school record for passing for 300 or more yards for the fourth time in his career.

The 69 points in one game were the second most in McNeese State history.
