New Orleans falls to Ole Miss, 97-59

The New Orleans Privateers women’s basketball team (3-4) surrendered 20 offensive rebounds in the first half and were defeated 97-59 by the Ole Miss Rebels (6-4) Monday night at the Tad Smith Coliseum.
Ole Miss raced out to a 17-4 lead after the first four minutes. In that stretch, Torri Lewis drained three, three-pointers and the Rebels had six offensive boards, compared to none for the Privateers.
At the conclusion of the quarter, Ole Miss grew its lead to 34-16 behind 15 second-chance points and five three-pointers.
The Rebels continued to make an impact from the three-point line as Lewis finished the half with 23 points and seven three-pointers.
At the half, Ole Miss led 60-28 and had 16 assists on 21 baskets.
The Privateers also were doubled up in field goal attempts, putting up just 26 shots in the first half while the Rebels had 52 attempts.
Ole Miss continued to put distance on their lead in the second half, opening up the third quarter with seven baskets in their first 12 attempts.
The Rebels shot 56.3 percent in the third quarter and took an 85-46 lead into the final stanza.
The Privateers were led by Central Catholic alum Randi Brown, who scored 13 points and went 9-of-9 from the free throw line. She also had four rebounds, one assist and two steals.
Other contributors for New Orleans included Bria Platenburg, 10 points and seven rebounds; Ariele Davis and Danielle Wright, eight points each; and Danielle Davis, six points and three assists.
Ole Miss was led by Lewis, who scored 36 points and made 10 three-pointers. Shandricka Sessom added 11 points, while Erika Sisk added 10. Shequila Joseph just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine boards.
Jonell Williams led the Rebels in rebounds with 10.
New Orleans will return home Thursday to take on UNC-Greensboro. Tip is scheduled for 11 a.m.
