PHS alum Trevon Stewart shines in Houston win

University of Houston senior safety Trevon Stewart had a huge game as the Cougars topped Cincinnati 33-30 Saturday in Houston.
Stewart, a Patterson High alum, recorded six total tackles (five solo and one assist), including three sacks and two quarterback hurries.
Stewart sacked Cincinnati quarterback Gunner Kiel in the end zone with 4:54 remaining in the third quarter for a safety and a 30-14 Houston lead.
Stewart is fourth on the Houston roster in tackles with 49 (31 solo and 18 assists) this season. He has nine tackles for a loss of 69 yards, six sacks for a loss of 65 yards, one interception, one breakup, two passes defensed, one quarterback hurry, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and one safety.
Meanwhile, as a team, Houston improved to 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the American Athletic Conference. It’s Houston’s first 9-0 start since 2011.
The Cougars also rose two spots in The Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls to No. 16 following the win.
