Ross powers Rice to 52-14 win over Louisiana Tech

HOUSTON (AP) — Charles Ross matched a Conference USA record with five rushing touchdowns and Rice rolled to a 52-14 victory over Louisiana Tech on Saturday night.

Ross finished with a career-high 215 yards rushing as the Owls (7-3, 5-1) bounced back from a 28-16 loss at North Texas on Oct. 31. Luke Turner also had a 1-yard TD run as Rice set season highs with 415 yards rushing and 582 yards overall.

It was an emotional victory for Owls coach David Bailiff, who was on the sideline just days after his father, Bob, died on Tuesday night.

Sterling Griffin had a 74-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter for Louisiana Tech (4-6, 3-3), which trailed 24-0 at halftime. Marlon Seets closed out the scoring with a 9-yard TD run with 1:50 to go.

Ross had TD runs of 2 and 5 yards in the first half, and 2, 1 and 19 in the second half.
