University of New Orleans' Randi Brown earns SLC Player of the Week honors

University of New Orleans guard Randi Brown has been voted Southland Conference Women’s Player of the Week for her performance in the Privateers’ victory against Jacksonville State Nov.22, in Jacksonville, Alabama.
Brown, a Preseason First Team All-Southland Conference selection and Central Catholic High alum, hit the winning basket with 8 seconds remaining in regulation as New Orleans defeated the Gamecocks, 81-79.
The junior had season and game highs of 28 points and 11 rebounds in 29 minutes.
She was saddled with three fouls in the first half and picked up a fourth in the second half.
Through Sunday’s games, Brown is the Southland Conference’s scoring leader, averaging 20.2 points per game in five contests. She leads the conference in points scored (101), field goals made (36) and is tied for second in 3-pointers made with 14.
This is the third SLC Player of the Week recognition for Brown, who won the honor back-to-back weeks (Mar. 2 and Mar. 8) in 2015 during her freshman season.
The Houma native was named Southland Conference Freshman of the Year during the 2014-15 season.
Brown and her New Orleans Privateers teammates return to action Wednesday at Lakefront Arena in New Orleans when they host Texas Southern University. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
