UNO women’s hoops fall to Stephen F. Austin

The New Orleans Privateers women’s basketball team could not overcome a hot-shooting night from the perimeter in a 76-56 loss to the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Thursday night at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
New Orleans (2-11 overall, 0-4 in conference) trailed 38-33 early in the second half before the decisive blow came from Stephen F. Austin (10-5, 3-1).
The Ladyjacks went on a 19-0 run to grow the lead to 24 points.
The Privateers responded by going on a 15-5 run and trailed 62-48 with less than eight minutes left but could not draw closer.
Stephen F. Austin nailed 12 three-pointers to help fuel the victory.
The Ladyjacks opened up hot from three-point range, scoring 12 of their first 17 points and building an early eight-point lead.
Stephen F. Austin got the advantage to as high as 11 before the Privateers went on a 6-0 spurt to cut the deficit down to 19-14.
The Privateers trimmed their 11-point deficit down to as small as two points in the first half but missed 10 of the last 11 shots in the opening half. The Privateers entered halftime trailing 35-29.
Danielle Davis led the Privateers with a season-best 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Octavia Wilson followed with nine points.
Yasmin Taylor helped the Privateers to a 38-33 edge on the glass by pulling down a team-high nine rebounds.
Former Central Catholic High School standout and New Orleans freshman Randi Brown had six points in the loss.
Stephen F. Austin had a balanced scoring effort with four players reaching double figures. Porsha Roberts had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Paulletta Powell added 13 points while Tierany Henderon and Brentney Branch each had 11.
The Privateers will next travel to face Houston Baptist Saturday. Tip is slated for 4 p.m.
