6 arrested after stolen firearms deal goes sour, sheriff says

Staff Report

Six people, four from Morgan City, were arrested after the purchase of a stolen gun went awry in Bayou L’Ourse Friday, Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack said in a news release.
The sheriff’s office received a 911 call at 7:20 p.m. Friday about a black SUV running off the road and knocking down mailboxes on La. 663 in Bayou L’Ourse, he said.
The deputy arrived and made contact with the caller who stated she was on the phone with an occupant of the black SUV and that they had been run off the road and shot at, he said. The caller also stated that State Police from Troop C had the suspect vehicle pulled over on U.S. 90, he said.
The trooper had detained three subjects after performing a felony stop on the vehicle.
A 40-caliber pistol, stolen in Belle Rose, was located underneath the front passenger seat, Waguespack said.
Investigation determined that the three individuals had driven in from New Orleans to purchase a gun from Joshua Bougere, he said. One suspect stated that during the transaction they began to fear an ambush so they rolled up the windows and drove off without paying, he said. The four individuals selling the gun, Joshua Bougere, Dennis Bougere, Grant Walker and Steven Davis, got in their vehicle and chased after them. Two shots were fired from the fleeing vehicle to get a pursuing vehicle to back off, Waguespack said.
Booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center for possession of stolen firearm were Joshua Bougere, 20, Grant Walker, 18, and Steven Davis, 37, who reside in the 200 block of Murial Street in Morgan City, Waguespack said. Bourgere’s bond has been set at $5,000 and he was still in custody this morning. Walker and Davis’ bonds have been set at $10,000 and they were still in custody this morning, he said.
Dennis Bougere, 19, also residing in the 200 block Murial Street in Morgan City, was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center for possession of a stolen firearm and careless operation of a motor vehicle. His bond has been set at $5,000 and he remained in custody this morning.
James Cole, 19, who resides on Judith Street in Waggaman, was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center for possession of a stolen firearm and illegal use of a weapon, Waguespack said. His bond has been set at $30,000 and he remained in custody this morning.
Anthony Agnew, 19, who resides in the 500 block of Wall Boulevard in Gretna, was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center for theft of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm, he said. His bond has been set at $30,000 and he remained in custody this morning.
The sheriff asked that if anyone has information about this case or others, to contact the Criminal Investigative Division at 985-526-1627 or Communications Division at 985-369-2912.
