A Bayou Vista man accused of hitting a volunteer firefighter with his vehicle while the firefighter was responding to a September 2013 wreck on the U.S. 90 bridge was booked Friday on additional charges for negligent injuring and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
—Daniel Ramirez, 38, of Arlington Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:14 a.m. Friday on a warrant for first degree negligent injuring and a warrant for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
Ramirez was located at his residence in Bayou Vista and arrested in connection with a crash investigation which occurred Sept. 29, 2013.
Ramirez had been arrested Wednesday for reckless operation of a motor vehicle, no driver’s license and violation of barricades, signs and signals in connection with the same incident.
On Sept. 29, 2013, Travis Bourdier, a Morgan City volunteer firefighter, was assisting St. Mary Parish sheriff’s deputies with diverting traffic caused from a crash in the westbound lanes of the U.S. 90 bridge near the La. 70 exit ramp at the time he was injured.
Ramirez was driving a 2007 Nissan Maxima at a high rate of speed, struck a fire truck blocking both lanes of traffic and then pinned Bourdier between the Ramirez vehicle and the highway guardrail, according to a lawsuit filed by Bourdier against three insurance agencies.
Bourdier went over the guardrail and into the opposite lane of traffic headed eastbound on U.S. 90, according to the suit.
Bourdier, also a volunteer firefighter for Berwick, Bayou Vista and Patterson, along with being an auxiliary police officer for Patterson, suffered two broken legs and has had multiple surgeries since the incident.
A blood analysis indicated Ramirez’s blood alcohol concentration was .15 grams-percent at the time of the crash, Banks said. He was jailed with bail set at $105,000.
Banks also reported the following arrests:
—Christopher Thomas, 42, of River Branch in Iowa, was arrested at 11:44 p.m. Friday for disturbing the peace intoxicated and simple battery.
Officers received a complaint of a disturbance at a Railroad Avenue lounge and arrived to investigate. During the investigation, it was learned that a male subject had struck the manager of the lounge when asked to leave.
The manager, who did not receive any injuries, provided a description of the person who had fled the scene, Banks said. The suspect, identified as Thomas, was located a short distance away and found to be in an intoxicated condition, the chief said. He was positively identified and jailed.
—Britany Gray, 21, of Garber Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:26 p.m. Saturday for disturbing the peace.
—Laquisha M. Price, 29, of Shreveport, was arrested at 1:26 p.m. Saturday for disturbing the peace.
—Kenwood Guillory, 33, of Garber Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:24 p.m. Saturday for disturbing the peace and simple battery.
Officers responded to a disturbance at a Garber Street residence. Officers learned that Gray and Price had been involved in a disturbance. During the disturbance, several objects were thrown. Guillory was accused of becoming involved in the disturbance and striking another female in the eye causing minor injuries, Banks said. The three were jailed.
—Jeffrey A. Gilmore, 52, of Hendricks Street in Patterson, was arrested at 10:32 p.m. Saturday for conspiracy to distribute Schedule III hydrocodone, conspiracy to distribute Schedule III suboxone and conspiracy to possess Schedule II crack cocaine
—Brenda M. Randle, 51, of Hendricks Street in Patterson, was arrested at 10:32 p.m. Saturday for conspiracy to distribute Schedule III hydrocodone, conspiracy to possess Schedule II crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Morgan City police officers learned that Randle was attempting to sell controlled substances illegally and began to investigate, Banks stated.
An officer, working in an undercover capacity, made contact with Randle and Gilmore and negotiated the purchase of hydrocodone and suboxone.
During the negotiation, they attempted to obtain crack cocaine in exchange for the items. Both were met at a predetermined location in Morgan City and detained. They were found to be in possession of the Schedule III substances. Randle was also found to possess drug paraphernalia and was additionally charged. Both were jailed where they remain.
—Joseph W. Stansbury, 53, of Hilda Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:42 p.m. Friday for telephone harassment.
Officers received a complaint of telephone harassment from a resident located on Willow Street. Officers learned that Stansbury had repeatedly called the residence and refused to cease. He was located at his Hilda Street residence and jailed.
—Joseph J. Julien, 48, of Arizona Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:53 p.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to appear for criminal neglect of family.
An officer came into contact with Julien near the intersection of Fourth and Greenwood streets in Morgan City. A check revealed that the subject was wanted on an outstanding warrant for the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Department. Julien was jailed.
—Demarcus Holly, 18, of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:40 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for contempt of court.
Holly was located at the Morgan City Police Department and placed under arrest on a City Court warrant.
—Tyler J. Adams, 20, of Glenwood Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:29 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for probation violation, a warrant for failure to report to a probation officer, a warrant for failure to appear for disturbing the peace and on a probation violation warrant for failure to provide proof of military enlistment.
Officers received a complaint of a suspicious subject at a La. 182 motel and arrived to investigate. They located Adams sitting inside a vehicle in the parking lot and learned that Adams was wanted on several outstanding warrants. He was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and incarcerated.
—Jerry Boyer, 69, of Morgan City, was arrested at 4:13 p.m. Sunday for appearing intoxicated in public.
Officers received a call in regard to an intoxicated person at the intersection of Fourth and Greenwood streets. They located Boyer who was jailed.
—Oscar E. Detrinidad, 35, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:51 p.m. Sunday for reckless operation of a movable and no driver’s license.
An officer observed a vehicle being driven in an erratic and reckless manner in the area of a La. 182 business and stopped the vehicle to investigate. The driver, Detrinidad, was found not to possess a valid driver’s license and jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 104 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Harley N. Rentrop, 20, of the 100 block of Aucoin Lane in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:31 a.m. Sunday for disturbing the peace.
—Alvin Farrande, 26, of the 100 block of Pluto Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 1:09 a.m. Sunday for aggravated battery, simple criminal damage to property, and disturbing the peace.
A deputy responded to a complaint of a disturbance involving a knife at an apartment complex on Pluto Road. The deputy made contact with Rentrop who refused to stop yelling and cursing at another subject.
The deputy learned that Farrande chased a male victim with a knife during an argument. The victim sustained a cut on his hand. Farrande also broke a window at the residence. Rentrop and Farrande were jailed. Farrande’s bail is set at $15,750. Rentrop was released on $250 bail.
—Charles L. Merrett, 34, of the 400 block of Williams Street in Patterson, was arrested at 2:31 p.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family. During booking at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center, the booking deputy learned of an active warrant for Merrett’s arrest. No bail is set.
—Larandan K. Hawkins, 24, of the 200 block of Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:48 p.m. Friday on a warrant from St. Martin Parish for failure to appear on the charge of failure to obey a traffic signal. A deputy responding to a complaint made contact with Hawkins and learned of the active warrant for his arrest. Hawkins was jailed with no bail set.
—Shawn Thompson, 36, of the 100 block of Lambert Lane in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 3:43 a.m. Saturday for disturbing the peace. A deputy responded to a complaint of a disturbance at a residence on Lambert Lane. The deputy heard loud noises from inside the residence, Hebert said.
The deputy made contact with Thompson, who admitted to yelling during an argument with a woman. Thompson was jailed and released on $500 bail.
—Kristopher L. Savoie, 34, of the 100 block of Todd Lane in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 3:27 p.m. Sunday on a warrant for failure to comply with the terms and conditions of drug court. Savoie turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville after learning of the warrant for his arrest. Bail is set at $100,000.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Chance Mitchell, 46, of Mike Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 11:52 p.m. Friday for disturbing the peace intoxicated. Mitchell was released on $150 bail.
—Larry Rebardi, 55, of Darlene Street in Patterson, was arrested at 11:55 p.m. Saturday for careless operation with a crash and driving while intoxicated first offense. Rebardi registered .116 grams-percent blood alcohol concentration. He was transferred to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville, and bail was to be set today.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Wayne J. Williams, 61, of the 100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Patterson, was arrested at 3:58 p.m. Saturday for cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Williams is jailed with no bail set yet.
