A Morgan City man was jailed Tuesday after Morgan City police found suspected crack cocaine and more than $800 in cash believed to have been from drug proceeds at an Egle Street residence, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
—Russell Walker Jr., 29, of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:23 p.m. Tuesday for possession of crack cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal use of controlled drug of persons under age 17 and transactions involving proceeds from controlled dangerous substance activity.
Narcotics division detectives conducting an investigation into the sales of illegal narcotics at an Egle Street residence and secured a search warrant during the investigation.
A search warrant was conducted at the residence which uncovered suspected crack cocaine and a scale commonly used in narcotics trafficking, Banks said. Detectives also recovered more than $800 in cash which was believed to be derived from the sales, Banks said.
The suspect, Walker, was located in the residence along with several juveniles. Officers discovered evidence which indicated Walker was responsible for the sale of illegal narcotics from the residence, Banks said. Walker was jailed.
Banks also reported the following arrests:
—James Parker Jr., 64, of the 500 block of Roderick Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:03 a.m. today for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Narcotics division detectives, while conducting an investigation into the possession of illegal narcotics at a Roderick Street residence, went to the residence to investigate. While there, detectives located Parker. During a consented search of the residence, detectives located a cellophane bag containing suspected marijuana, Banks said.
Parker denied knowledge of the substance, saying that he was a crack cocaine user only, Banks said. The suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia items were seized. He was jailed.
—Branshekia Harris, 26, of Orange Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:17 a.m. today for resisting an officer by giving false information and on a St. Mary Sheriff’s Office warrant for failure to appear on the charge of theft of goods.
An officer stopped a vehicle in the area of Brashear and Federal avenues. A passenger in the vehicle identified herself as Shandice Harris. The officer suspected that Harris was attempting to conceal her true identity, Banks said. The officer was able to identify her as Branshekia Harris, who was wanted on a warrant, Banks said. She was jailed.
—Christa N. Naquin, 27, of Lake Palourde Road in Amelia, was arrested at noon Tuesday on warrants for a probation violation, failure to pay probation fees, failure to pay restitution and failure to pay fines.
Naquin turned herself in to the Morgan City Police Department, and she was released on cash bail.
—Huong T. Huynh, 40, of Cypress Street in Amelia, was arrested at 2:18 p.m. Tuesday for theft of goods valued at $10.81.
An officer working security at a La. 182 supermarket observed a female conceal items and leave the store without paying for the items, Banks said. Huynh was detained outside the store and the items were recovered. She was jailed.
—Charles A. Preece, 25, of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 3:22 p.m. Tuesday on warrants for contempt of court for failure to pay a fine, failure to pay a probation fee, a City Court probation violation, failure to pay a fine for resisting an officer and failure to pay a fine.
Preece was located at the Berwick Police Department and placed under arrest for outstanding warrants for the Morgan City Police Department. He was jailed.
—Brooklyn T. Carter, 26, of Garber Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:27 p.m. Tuesday on an East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office warrant for theft of goods.
An officer detained a vehicle and its driver near the intersection of Front and Egle streets after the vehicle was observed with an improperly displayed license plate. The driver was identified as Carter who was discovered to be wanted on a warrant for the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office. She was jailed at the Morgan City Police Department pending transfer to East Baton Rouge Parish authorities.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 42 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—John L. Hall, 24, of the 300 block of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:54 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City on a warrant for failure to register as a sex offender. Hall, who was convicted on a fourth degree sex offense in Maryland in 2010, failed to meet registration requirements, Hebert said. Hall was jailed with no bail set.
—Bonnie Venable, 47, of the 900 block of Ray Road in New Iberia, was arrested at 10:37 a.m. Tuesday on two warrants for issuing worthless checks and a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of issuing worthless checks. A jailer at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville made contact with Venable and learned of the active warrants for her arrest. Venable came to the facility during visitation. No bail is set.
—Shanice S. Thomas, 25, of the 600 block of Sixth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of issuing worthless checks. Thomas turned herself in at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Morgan City after learning of the warrant for her arrest. Thomas was jailed with bail set at $1,500.
—Mark A. Smith, 50, of the 1400 block of Myrtle Street in Patterson, was arrested at 1 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of remaining where forbidden and resisting an officer. A deputy located Smith at the St. Mary Parish Courthouse in Franklin on the warrant. Smith was jailed with bail set at $5,000.
—Miesha Moore, 33, of the 200 block of Florida Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:57 p.m. Tuesday for theft of goods and possession of Schedule I marijuana second offense.
A deputy responded to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. The deputy learned from store personnel that Moore was seen concealing items before attempting to leave the store without paying for the goods. Moore was also found to be in possession of a cigar containing marijuana, Hebert said. Moore was jailed with no bail set.
—Crystal Tomino, 26, of the 800 block of Florence Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:19 a.m. today for driving under suspension and headlights required. Tomino was released on a summons to appear in court on July 11.
—Chad M. Richard, 33, of the 200 block of Belle River Road in Pierre Part, was arrested at 6:58 p.m. Tuesday for possession of Schedule I marijuana. Narcotics detectives conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle fail to signal a turn onto Martin Luther King Boulevard in Morgan City.
Detectives made contact with the driver, identified as Richard. While speaking with Richard, detectives observed a marijuana cigarette in Richard’s lap. Detectives released Richard on a summons to appear in court on July 11.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Michael Morton Jr., 40, of Second Street in Berwick, was arrested at 9:24 p.m. Tuesday for two counts of possession of legend drugs without a prescription. Morton was jailed and is awaiting bail to be set.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Ulysses I. Bias, 58, of the 300 block of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:07 p.m. Tuesday for driving under the influence. Bias was jailed with no bail set at this time.
