A Lafayette man was arrested this morning for possession of multiple illegal drugs after attempting to flee from officers on foot, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
—Kirk M. Anslum, 31, of Badger Trail in Lafayette, was arrested at 2:09 a.m. today for speeding 41 mph in a 30 mph zone, resisting an officer, possession of Schedule III alprazolam second offense, possession of Schedule II methamphetamine third offense, possession of Schedule II Vyvanse third offense and felony possession of drug paraphernalia third offense.
An officer observed a speeding vehicle in the area of Brashear Avenue and Fourth Street and clocked the vehicle traveling at 41 mph in a 30 mph zone. The vehicle was stopped and the driver identified as Anslum.
During the interview, the driver appeared extremely nervous and made several attempts to reach into his pocket, Banks said. The officer conducted a safety check of Anslum for weapons, and Anslum admitted to officers that he had a syringe in his pocket, Banks said.
Anslum then pulled away and attempted to flee from the officers on foot. Officers pursued him and eventually used a Taser, incapacitating Anslum, Banks said. Anslum was also found to possess alprazolam, methamphetamine and Vyvanse as well as drug paraphernalia. He was jailed where he remains.
Banks also reported the following arrests:
—Dustin J. Ferguson, 21, of Levee Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:57 p.m. Wednesday on warrants for a probation violation and contempt of court.
Ferguson was located at his Levee Road residence. He was jailed on $1,000 cash bail.
—Nina Morgan, 32, of Duke Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to pay a fine-judgment rule. Morgan was located at the Morgan City Jail facility and jailed.
—Jerome Gray, 35, of Labadieville, was arrested at 7:33 p.m. Wednesday for driving under suspension, improper display of a license plate, on a failure to appear warrant for no seat belt from the Thibodaux Police Department, contempt of court and on a warrant from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office for a traffic violation.
An officer observed a vehicle with an improperly displayed license plate and stopped the vehicle in the area of Victor II Boulevard and Brashear Avenue to investigate. The driver of the vehicle, Gray, was discovered to be operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. He was jailed.
—Christin L. Blanchard, 26, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:19 p.m. Wednesday on warrants for a window tint violation, failure to pay a fine for expired license plate and failure to appear for no insurance.
An officer observed Blanchard in the area of La. 182 and Cottonwood Street and was aware of warrants for her arrest. She was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 31 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Joseph J. Francois, 20, of the 100 block of Delcambre Street in Breaux Bridge, was arrested at 6:04 p.m. Wednesday for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of drug free zone (school) and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor.
Narcotics division detectives patrolling the Bayou Vista area observed two children jumping around in a vehicle on Jupiter Street. The vehicle also had a shattered windshield. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver who was identified as Francois.
While speaking with Francois, detectives could smell an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. During the subsequent investigation, detectives located a bag of marijuana on Francois’ person. Detectives also located a backpack belonging to Francois in the vehicle that contained small bags of marijuana packaged for distribution. Two digital scales were also found. The traffic stop took place in front of a school. Francois was jailed with no bail set.
—Terry Ratliff, 42, of the 4000 block of Francis Street in Berwick, was arrested at 7:06 p.m. Wednesday for two counts of resisting an officer, obstruction of justice, possession of drug paraphernalia and turning movements and required signals.
Narcotics detectives patrolling the Berwick area observed a vehicle fail to properly signal a turn and conducted a traffic stop on Fifth Street. Detectives made contact with the driver, identified as Ratliff. While speaking with Ratliff, detectives saw her throw a pipe away from her person. The pipe, believed to be used for smoking crack, was recovered, Hebert said. During the arrest, Ratliff attempted to pull away from detectives, Hebert said. Ratliff was jailed with no bail set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
