A 27-year-old Morgan City man was jailed Wednesday on a warrant for an incident where he attempted to attack another man with a knife, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
—Joseph P. Percle, 27, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:33 a.m. Wednesday on a warrant for aggravated assault domestic abuse and disturbing the peace.
An officer located Percle on U.S. 90. The warrant stemmed from an incident at a La. 182 apartment complex in which Percle was alleged to have attempted to attack a man during a domestic dispute with a knife, Banks said.
On Tuesday, Willie Davis, 53, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested for aggravated battery and engaging in a fistic encounter in connection with the incident. Percle was injured in the incident after being struck with a stick and received medical treatment, Banks said. He was jailed.
There are no other arrests expected.
Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks reported the following arrests:
—Tyler J. Aucoin, 25, of Federal Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:02 p.m. Wednesday for possession of Schedule I marijuana.
—Albert R. Soto, 54, of Federal Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:02 p.m. Wednesday for resisting an officer by giving false information, stop sign violation and operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.
An officer observed that a vehicle failed to yield at a stop sign in the area of Onstead Street and Federal Avenue and stopped the vehicle to investigate. The driver of the vehicle, Soto, attempted to conceal his identity from officers, Banks said.
The officer was able to obtain his identity and learned that Soto was operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. A passenger in the vehicle, Aucoin, was found to be in possession of a Schedule I marijuana and was also arrested. Both were jailed.
—Michael L. Guidry, 45, of Willard Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:22 p.m. Wednesday for operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and failure to signal turn.
An officer observed a vehicle failing to signal a turn in the area of Willard and Seventh streets and stopped the vehicle to investigate. He registered .209 grams-percent blood alcohol concentration. He was jailed.
—Robert L. Mulligan, 61, of Amelia, was arrested at 3:47 a.m. today on warrants for a probation violation and for failure to pay a fine for disturbing the peace. An officer observed Mulligan in the area of Ditch Avenue. Mulligan was jailed on warrants.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 36 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Randy Plessala Jr., 41, of the 300 block of Jacobs Street in Berwick, was arrested on Wednesday on a warrant for domestic abuse battery in the presence of juveniles. A deputy located Plessala at his residence on the warrant. The warrant stems from a complaint of a possible domestic disturbance at a residence in Bayou Vista. The investigating deputy learned that Plessala pushed and struck a female victim. Two children were present during the battery, Hebert said. Plessala was jailed with no bail set.
—A juvenile male, 14, of Berwick, was arrested at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday for battery of a school teacher. A school resource officer assigned to the St. Mary Parish Alternative School received a report that a student struck a teacher when the student was leaving a classroom, Hebert said. The deputy released the juvenile to a guardian pending juvenile court proceedings.
—Alexis Leonard, 17, of the 100 block of Jupiter Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 5:16 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a juvenile, and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. Narcotics detectives located Leonard at her residence on the warrant. Leonard was jailed with no bail set.
—Larry G. Barnett, 34, of the 1200 block of Sixth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:04 p.m. Wednesday for resisting an officer and failure to signal a turn 100 feet prior to an intersection. Narcotics detectives observed the driver of a pickup truck fail to properly signal a turn near the corner of La. 182 and Southeast Boulevard and initiated a traffic stop.
The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Barnett, failed to stop. Detectives observed Barnett to be moving something around inside the cab of the truck. Detectives continued to follow Barnett onto Canal Street where he stopped the vehicle.
Detectives saw Barnett continuing to reach around inside the vehicle making movements that are consistent with possible illegal activity, Hebert said. Detectives ordered Barnett to exit the truck multiple times. Barnett repeatedly refused to comply, the sheriff said. After additional verbal commands were given by the detectives, Barnett exited the vehicle. Detectives detained Barnett pending further investigation. Barnett was jailed and released on $1,250 bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
