A Bayou Vista woman, who worked as a caretaker, was jailed Wednesday on six forgery and theft warrants in connection with a case in which the woman is accused of taking six checks from a client to purchase more than $400 in goods, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Angela M. Weber, 46, of the 800 block of Saturn Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 1:59 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for six counts of forgery and on a warrant for six counts of theft. A detective located Weber at her residence on the warrants. The warrants stem from an investigation into a complaint of a theft of checks. The detective determined that Weber, the male victim’s caretaker, took six checks and used them to purchase more than $400 in goods at a store in Bayou Vista. Weber was jailed with no bail set.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 42 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Donald Lightfoot, 27, of the 200 block of Grandwood Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 6:16 p.m. Wednesday for domestic abuse battery, possession of a Schedule I drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia. A deputy responded to a request to remove a person from a residence in the Patterson area.
During the subsequent investigation, the deputy learned that Lightfoot and a woman were arguing when Lightfoot struck the woman in the stomach area, the sheriff said. While speaking with Lightfoot at his residence, the deputy observed a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana alongside an item of drug paraphernalia. Lightfoot was jailed with no bail set.
—Destiny J. Landry, 39, of the 500 block of Arcemont Lane in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 3:38 a.m. today on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of contempt of court, failure to use a seatbelt, and failure to honor written promise to appear. A deputy patrolling the Bayou Vista area observed someone walking near the intersection of Southeast Boulevard and La. 182. The deputy stopped to speak with Landry. While speaking with Landry, the deputy learned of the active warrant for his arrest. Landry was jailed with bail set at $100.
—Carla J. Johnson, 52, of the 300 block of Fifth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:54 a.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of second degree battery and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of domestic abuse battery. Johnson was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville on the warrants by Morgan City Police. He was jailed with no bail set.
Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks reported the following arrests:
—Michael L. Gaines, 56, of Shannon Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:59 p.m. Wednesday for operating a vehicle while intoxicated second offense, careless operation with an accident, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, no motor vehicle insurance and open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
Officers responded to a vehicle crash on U.S. 90 near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard exit and located a vehicle which had collided with the barrier. The accident resulted in no injuries, Banks said. The driver, Gaines, was located and found to be in an impaired condition. Gaines refused a field sobriety test and refused to take the Intoxilyzer 5000 test, Banks said. Gaines was found to be in possession of several open containers of alcoholic beverage in his vehicle. He was also found to be in possession of a pipe commonly used to consume illegal narcotics. Gaines was jailed.
—Clifton Brown, 30, of Franklin Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:33 p.m. Wednesday for possession of marijuana.
A Morgan City police narcotics detective along with a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office narcotics detective observed a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner on La. 182 in Morgan City and stopped the vehicle to investigate. The driver of the vehicle was detained and a passenger identified as Brown.
During the encounter, officers saw a cellophane bag which contained suspected marijuana in the vehicle. Brown admitted to officers of the possession of the controlled substance, Banks said. He was jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
