A Morgan City man was arrested Monday at the Patterson Area Civic Center after he grabbed a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s deputy’s arm when the deputy requested that he smoke his cigarette outside, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Donald Turner Jr., 32, of the 400 block of Adams Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:07 a.m. Monday for smoking in a public building (violation of a parish ordinance) and battery of a police officer.
While working a detail assignment at the Patterson Area Civic Center, a deputy observed a person, identified as Turner, smoking inside the public facility. The deputy requested that Turner bring his cigarette outside. As the deputy walked with Turner towards the exit, Turner stopped, turned around, and grabbed the deputy’s arm, Hebert said. Turner was jailed and later released on $1,250 bail.
Hebert also reported responding to 62 complaints and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Christopher Bennett, 32, of the 200 block of Grandwood Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 12:06 a.m. Tuesday for possession of Schedule I marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and on a warrant for probation violation. A deputy responded to a complaint of a disturbance at a residence on Grandwood Drive.
The deputy overheard two people arguing and made contact with them. One of them, identified as Bennett, was found to have an active warrant for his arrest. The deputy located three small bags of marijuana on his person. The deputy received consent to search Bennett’s residence and located several items of drug paraphernalia. Bennett was jailed with no bail set.
—Shantell Thomas, 32, of the 1700 block of Federal Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:39 p.m. Monday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of marijuana. Thomas was brought to the parish jail by probation and parole. No bail is set.
—Jalalen Broussard, 17, of the 300 block of Charlotte Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 2:01 p.m. Monday for theft of goods. A deputy responding to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista learned from store personnel that Broussard was seen taking an item without paying for it. Broussard was released on a summons to appear in court on June 12.
Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks reported the following arrests:
—Melissa Ann Evans, 44, of Elk Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:51 p.m. Monday on a warrant for possession of a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance-oxycodone, a warrant for attempted obstruction of justice and a warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Evans was located near the intersection of Martin Luther King and Victor II boulevards and placed under arrest on an outstanding warrant which was secured after investigators began an investigation in January of a narcotics complaint at a motel, Banks said. In that investigation, items were recovered inside a motel room in which Evans was residing. The substances were seized and analyzed. Evans was jailed.
—Shantell N. Thomas, 32, of Federal Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:48 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear for criminal trespass, disturbing the peace intoxicated, contempt of court, and on a warrant from Lafourche Parish for failure to appear.
Thomas was transported to the Morgan City Jail to be housed for the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office and discovered to be wanted on Morgan City police warrants.
—Arne L. Brewer, 48, of Gen. Patton Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:57 p.m. Tuesday for domestic abuse battery and on a warrant for failure to appear for allowing dogs to roam.
—Gary J. Barrios, 50, of Gen. Patton Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:56 a.m. Tuesday for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers responded to a complaint of a domestic disturbance at a Patton Street residence and located Barrios and Brewer. During the complaint, officers learned that Brewer had committed a battery on a male companion at the residence causing minor injuries, Banks said. Barrios was in possession of drug paraphernalia items. Both were jailed.
Franklin Police Chief Sabria McGuire reported the following arrest:
Jonathan P. Conner, 33, of Apple Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:35 p.m. Tuesday on two bench warrants for 16th Judicial District Court for failure to appear on the charges of failure to use seatbelts, no driver’s license, and disobeying a traffic light. Conner was jailed on $699.50 bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
