A 48-year-old Patterson man was charged Monday with domestic abuse battery after being accused of pushing a woman to the ground during an argument, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—John Garrett, 48, of the 200 block of Haney Street in Patterson, was arrested at 3:11 p.m. Monday on a warrant for domestic abuse battery and disturbing the peace. Garrett turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Franklin.
The warrant stems from an investigation into a report of a disturbance at a business on U.S. 90 in the Patterson area. Garrett and a woman were involved in an argument when Garrett pushed the woman to the ground, Hebert said. Garrett was jailed with bail set at $6,500.
Hebert reported responding to 40 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Aaron Johnson, 29, of the 1200 block of Third Street in Patterson, was arrested at 11:54 a.m. Monday on a warrant for issuing worthless checks. A deputy assigned to the warrants division located Johnson on Railroad Avenue in Morgan City on the warrant. The deputy released Johnson on a summons to appear in court March 11, 2015.
—Hermeisha Hawkins, 20, of the 200 block of Arizona Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:59 p.m. Monday for theft of goods. A deputy responded to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista.
The deputy learned from store personnel that Hawkins was seen concealing video games inside a bag before attempting to leave the store without paying for the items, Hebert said. Hawkins was released on a summons to appear in court March 11, 2015.
—Norman Carter, 50, no known address, was arrested at 9:01 p.m. Monday for vagrancy and possession of drug paraphernalia. A deputy patrolling the Amelia area observed a man sitting outside of a closed business on La. 182.
The deputy made contact with the person, identified as Carter, and smelled the odor of burning marijuana. The deputy located a pack of rolling papers on Carter, the sheriff said. Following the investigation, Carter was jailed with bail set at $1,750.
Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks reported the following arrests:
—Dustin J. Ferguson, 21, of Levee Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:50 p.m. Monday on a warrant for City Court of Morgan City on four counts of contempt of court, failure to pay a fine for careless operation and on a 16th Judicial District Court warrant for two counts of failure to appear for drug court.
Ferguson was located after officers observed him as a passenger in a vehicle. The officer was aware of outstanding warrants for Ferguson’s arrest and detained him, Banks said. He was jailed with bail set at $200,000.
—Moises Stratton, 38, of Second Street in Berwick, was arrested at 5:36 p.m. Monday on a warrant for failure to appear for arraignment and a warrant for issuing worthless checks ($52.74).
Stratton was located at the Berwick Police Department and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Craig Free, 27, of the 1900 block of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 2:15 p.m. Monday at the Berwick Police Department on a warrant for simple criminal damage to property ($2,000). Free was jailed with no bail set yet.
—Adrian J. Green, 24, of the 700 block of Main Street in Patterson, was arrested at 1:10 a.m. today for possession of marijuana second offense. Green was jailed with no bail set yet.
