For the second time in less than a week, a woman is accused of using a baseball bat in an attack.
Jazlyn Bourque, 19, of Morgan City, was arrested at 9:05 p.m. Saturday for domestic abuse battery and aggravated assault.
Morgan City Assistant Chief Mark Griffin Jr. said a patrolling officer observed a disturbance at a La. 182 apartment complex. Bourque was observed swinging a metal baseball bat at a male, attempting to strike him.
She then was seen striking the man with a closed fist, he said. The officer intervened and detained Bourque. She is jailed.
On Thursday, the St. Mary Sherriff’s Department arrested an Amelia woman for taking a baseball bat to two vehicles at a Centerville business.
Meanwhile, Demetria Y. Francis, 36, of Waveland, Mississippi, was arrested at 10:52 p.m. Sunday for aggravated battery and simple criminal damage to property ($250 value) after she cut two tires on a vehicle and hit a man with a glass bowl, Griffin said.
Officers responded to a disturbance at a Mayon Street residence where they were flagged down by a male who said Francis had cut two tires on his vehicle and had struck him during a disturbance. Francis was detained in the area. She is accused of striking the victim on two occasions during the argument, one with a glass bowl which she allegedly struck the victim in the face. Francis is jailed.
In other action, Griffin said the following additional arrests were made:
—Jenna Gilmore, 29, of Bayou Vista, was arrested at 4:28 p.m. Saturday for operating a vehicle while intoxicated — child endangerment.
Officers were dispatched to Colonial Plaza in Morgan City regarding a female operating a vehicle impaired. The caller provided a description of the vehicle. Gilmore was observed, according to reports, as appearing impaired and was unsteady on her feet.
Gilmore was found in the company of two small infants. She failed a field sobriety test and indicated to officers that she was under the influence of prescription medication, Griffin said.
At the Morgan City Police Department she submitted to an Intoxilyzer 5000 test which indicated a blood alcohol concentration of .000 grams-percent. She was transported to Teche Regional Medical Center where she submitted a blood and urine test. Those results are pending.
Gilmore was transported to the Morgan City Police Department where she was booked and jailed.
—Karen C. Dumont, 38, of Keith Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:12 p.m. Friday for possession of a Schedule III controlled dangerous substance (Suboxone).
—Dustin P. Falgout, 19, of Keith Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:12 p.m. Friday for possession of a Schedule IV controlled dangerous substance (Xanax).
Detectives stopped a vehicle with improper lighting near Federal Avenue and Terrebonne Street to speak with the driver. During the stop, investigators recovered Suboxone and Xanax. Both were jailed.
—Alfonso Alejandre, 37, of Terrebonne Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:11 p.m. Saturday for second offense possession of cocaine, hit and run driving, possession of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle and second offense no driver’s license.
Officers were dispatched to Terrebonne Street to investigate a hit and run accident. Officers located the vehicle described by witnesses in the 500 block of Terrebonne Street and identified the driver as Alejandra. Alejandra was found to be in possession of an open container of alcoholic beverage in his vehicle, Griffin said. His vehicle was positively identified as the suspect vehicle. Upon his arrest, Alejandra was found to possess a cellophane bag containing several small pieces of suspected crack cocaine, Griffin said. He is jailed.
—Michael S. Drummond, 35, of Short Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:04 p.m. Friday on warrants for issuing worthless checks, failure to appear for driving while intoxicated and for domestic abuse battery.
Officers located Drummond at a La. 182 lounge and placed him under arrest on outstanding warrants for the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Department. He is jailed.
—Alain A. Arcia-Diaz, 26, of Wise Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11 a.m. Saturday for driving under suspension and motorcycle helmet required.
A patrolling officer observed a motorcycle traveling on La. 182 with an operator with no helmet. The officer detained the vehicle to speak with the driver, Arcia-Diaz, and discovered that he was operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. Arcia-Diaz was jailed.
—Devon E. Marsh, 22, of Ciro Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2 p.m. Saturday for operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, a warrant for hit and run driving and a warrant for driving under suspension.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle make an improper turn near the intersection of Aycock Street and Railroad Avenue and stopped the vehicle to investigate. The driver, Marsh, could not produce a valid driver’s license and was discovered to be operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, Griffin said. Marsh was also found to be wanted on outstanding warrants for failing to appear in the Sixth Ward City Court of Morgan City on other charges. He is jailed.
—John M. Jones Jr., 23, of Bayou Vista, was arrested at 4:28 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for failure to appear for improper lane usage.
Jones was located on La. 182 at Colonial Plaza Shopping Center and placed under arrest on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in the Sixth Ward City Court of Morgan City. He was jailed.
—Gary A. Viola, 57, of Fourth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:41 p.m. Saturday for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers investigating a complaint of a disturbance at a Fourth Street residence came into contact with Viola who was found to be in possession of suspected marijuana along with items of drug paraphernalia, Griffin said. Viola, who admitted that the substance belonged to him, was arrested and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was jailed, Griffin said.
—Bryan Wright, 40, of Gray, was arrested at 8:05 p.m. Saturday on warrants for failure to pay probation fee, probation violation, aggravated battery and possession of marijuana.
Wright was located at a General Hodges residence and placed under arrest on several outstanding warrants for the Morgan City Police Department as well as the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Department. He was transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was jailed.
—Belinda Bourque, 41, of Freret Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:31 a.m. Sunday for possession of marijuana.
—Donald Byrd, 45, of Freret Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:31 a.m. Sunday for second offense possession of marijuana.
Officers responded to a Freret Street address regarding a disturbance and located Byrd and Bourque. While investigating the complaint, officers observed suspected marijuana in plain view and questioned the occupants of the residence, Griffin said. Both denied knowledge of the substance and were charged. Both were transported to the Morgan City Police Department where they were jailed.
