A 53-year-old Morgan City man wanted for theft from a pharmacy was caught Saturday, and was also charged with obstruction of justice after he admitted to discarding a crack pipe as officers pursued him, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
—Richard M. Giroir, 53, of Arenz Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:41 p.m. Saturday for obstruction of justice, resisting an officer, criminal trespass and theft of goods (value $202.96).
Officers were dispatched to a Marguerite Street pharmacy in regards to a man who fled the store, setting off the security alarm at the front door, Banks said. Officers arrived to investigate and through video surveillance video identified the person as Giroir, the same person who was a suspect in a theft which was reported on Sept. 28 at the same pharmacy, Banks said.
Officers went to a residence in the 600 block of Arenz Street to locate the person. Upon speaking with the resident, Giroir fled the residence into the rear yard area. Officers pursued Giroir and observed him attempting to discard an item in his hand, Banks said.
Though Giroir refused to stop, he was eventually captured and admitted to officers that he discarded a pipe commonly used to consume crack cocaine, as officers approached, Banks said.
During the investigation, Giroir admitted to officers that he committed the theft on Sept. 28 of items with a value of $202.96. The over-the-counter type items were not recovered, Banks said. The owner of the residence in which Giroir was captured said that Giroir was not authorized to enter onto the property and was therefore trespassing, Banks said. Giroir was jailed.
Banks reported the following arrests:
—Casey Chenevert, 17, of Mount Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:35 p.m. Friday for possession of Schedule I marijuana.
—Marquis Green, 18, of Oak Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:35 p.m. Friday for possession of Schedule I marijuana.
Officers were dispatched to the area of Federal Avenue and Levee Road in regard to a vehicle being driven with narcotics inside. Officers arrived in the area and located the vehicle as described. The vehicle was found occupied by two adults, Green and Chenevert, and a 16-year-old girl.
During the investigation, a responsible parent for the juvenile was summoned to the scene. During the investigation and subsequent search, officers located suspected marijuana in various locations inside the vehicle. The subjects were questioned but denied knowledge of the substance. They were jailed. The juvenile was released to a parent pending court proceedings.
—Kathy E. Schaub, 32, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:11 p.m. Saturday for driving under suspension.
Officers detained a vehicle on La. 182 in regard to an investigation and located the driver, Schaub, who was found to be operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license. Schaub was jailed.
—Donald V. Bosarge, 45, of Terrebonne Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:03 a.m. Sunday on a warrant for failure to return leased merchandise.
Bosarge was located on Terrebonne Street and placed under arrest for outstanding warrants for the Morgan City Police Department. The lease merchandise was identified as a roofing nailer valued at $250, which was not returned to a La. 182 hardware store. He was jailed.
—Harold H. Henderson Jr., 34, of Utah Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:03 p.m. Sunday for disturbing the peace.
Officers were dispatched to Teche Regional Medical Center in regard to someone causing a disturbance. Officers arrived and located Henderson in the emergency room treatment area yelling and causing a disturbance. Henderson was ordered to leave the premises several times, which he eventually complied.
A short time later, Henderson returned to the area, again causing a disturbance and was placed under arrest. He was transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and incarcerated.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 135 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Alexander P. Pousson, 34, of the 100 block of Ernie Lane in Ricohoc, was arrested at 11:57 a.m. Friday for theft and simple criminal damage to property.
—Tony L. Brooks, 53, of the 100 block of Ernie’s Lane in Ricohoc, was arrested at 12:03 p.m. Friday for theft.
A deputy investigating a complaint of theft from a residence on Ernie’s Lane made contact with Pousson and Brooks and identified them as the persons who took two air conditioning units from the property. During the theft, the AC’s and the yard of the residence were damaged. Both men were jailed with no bail set.
—Patti Malloy, 37, of the 5300 block of La. 182 in Patterson, was arrested at 11:47 p.m. Sunday for domestic abuse battery. A deputy was dispatched to Teche Regional Medical Center in reference to a possible battery. The deputy located Malloy at her residence.
The deputy learned that Malloy became angry and struck a man in the face with a cell phone causing an injury to his eye. Malloy was jailed with no bail set.
—Veronica Lynch, 39, of the 700 block of Arlington Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 7:03 p.m. Friday for theft of goods.
—Julia Glynn, 23, of the 700 block of Arlington Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 7:03 p.m. Friday for theft of goods.
A deputy responded to a complaint of shoplifting at a store in Bayou Vista. The deputy learned from store personnel that Lynch and Glynn were seen concealing items in a stroller. The women then attempted to leave the store without paying for the items. Lynch and Glynn were released on summonses to appear in court Jan. 26.
—William Stevens Jr., 51, of the 100 block of Stevens Lane in Franklin, was arrested at 2:45 a.m. Saturday for driving while intoxicated. A deputy responded to a complaint of a crash that occurred at a business on La. 182 in Bayou Vista.
The deputy learned that the driver of a vehicle, identified as Stevens, struck an unoccupied parked vehicle. While speaking with Stevens, the deputy smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. The deputy also observed that Stevens’ speech was slurred and that he was unsteady on his feet. Stevens was jailed with bail set at $3,500. Stevens was later transported to another facility.
—Williams Bollard, 31, of the 300 block of Charlotte Street in Patterson, was arrested at 1:36 a.m. Sunday for reckless operation of a vehicle. A deputy patrolling the Bayou Vista area observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Universe Street and failing to stop or signal prior to pulling onto U.S. 90. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Bollard. Following an investigation, Bollard was jailed and released on a summons to appear in court Jan. 26.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—India Labry, 18, of the 400 block of Tiffany Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 8:08 a.m. Friday for simple battery-domestic. Labry was released on $7,500 bail.
—Keisha Howard, 38, of the 1200 block of O Street in Patterson, was arrested at 3:34 a.m. Sunday for disturbing the peace by fighting. Howard was released on $413 bail.
—Darrielshine Brown, 20, of the 400 block of Wedell Street in Patterson, was arrested at 3:41 a.m. Sunday for disturbing the peace by fighting. Brown was released on $413 cash bail.
—Tori Smith, 20, of the 400 block of Leo Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 4:41 a.m. Sunday for disturbing the peace by fighting. Smith was jailed on $413 bail.
—Jerome Jennings, 51, of the 500 block of Cleveland Street in Patterson, was arrested at 9:12 a.m. Sunday for simple battery involving domestic abuse. No bail is set yet.
—Johnathan Campuzano-Davila, 29, of the 1700 block of Main Street in Patterson, was arrested at 10:28 p.m. Sunday for driving while intoxicated, no driver’s license, no insurance and open container. No bail is set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Roman Bagley, 24, of the 200 block of Oregon Street in Berwick, was arrested at 3:01 p.m. Saturday for reckless operation of a motor vehicle. Bagley was released on bail.
