A 24-year-old Amelia man was charged with crack cocaine possession after a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy approached him, and the man showed the deputy two crack cocaine rocks he claimed were not his, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Pedro D. Cortez, 24, of West Syls Road in Amelia, was arrested at 12:59 a.m. today for possession of Schedule II crack cocaine. A deputy responding to a medical emergency made contact with Cortez who showed the deputy two rocks of crack cocaine and claimed that the illegal drug was not his, Hebert said. Following the investigation, Cortez was jailed with no bail set.
Hebert reported responding to 40 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrest in east St. Mary Parish
Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks reported the following arrests:
—Luis Obregon, 32, of Port Arthur, Texas, was arrested at 9:23 a.m. Thursday for suspended driver’s license, and speeding 38 mph in a 25 mph zone.
While on patrol in the area of Sixth and Terrebonne streets police observed a white Ford pick -up truck traveling at a high rate of speed. Officers conducted a traffic stop and encountered Obregon, who could not produce a driver’s license. He was jailed.
—Michael Anthony, 22, of Pierre Part, was arrested at 1:14 p.m. Thursday for violation of general speed law and no driver’s license.
Police on patrol observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed near the area Seventh Street and La. 182. A traffic stop was conducted and Anthony could not produce a valid driver’s license. Anthony was jailed.
—Peggy Fabre, 47, of Morgan City, was arrested at 1:40 p.m. Thursday for theft by shoplifting.
Police were called to a local business on La. 182 in regards to a shoplifter. Management had detained the suspect until officers arrived, Banks said. Upon arrival, officers learned Fabre had placed items in her purse. The value of those items totaled $29.75. Fabre was jailed.
—Bryanshekia Harris, 27, of Morgan City, was arrested at 3 a.m. today on a warrant for failure to appear for resisting an officer.
The Patterson Police Department arrested Harris on an outstanding warrant for the Morgan City Police Department. Harris was transported to the Morgan City Police Department.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
