A 32-year-old Pierre Part man was charged Monday with home invasion after being accused of breaking into a Bayou Vista residence Saturday, kidnapping his 4-year-old son, committing a battery on a woman and stealing her purse, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Benjamin J. Landry, 32, of the 100 block of Mary Ann Street in Pierre Part, was arrested at 2:23 p.m. Monday on a warrant for simple battery, home invasion, simple kidnapping, simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, simple criminal damage to property and violation of a protective order.
Landry turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center in Centerville after learning of the warrant for his arrest. The warrant stems from an investigation into a report of a kidnapping that occurred at a residence in Bayou Vista at about 8 a.m. Saturday.
Upon arrival, deputies learned that Landry forced his way into the home and took his 4-year-old son from the residence. During the kidnapping, Landry committed a battery on a female victim, took her purse, and also damaged a door.
The investigation led detectives to a residence in Pierre Part where, with the assistance of the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office, the child was located unharmed. Landry had fled from the location and a warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest. No bail is set.
Hebert reported responding to 61 complaints in the parish.
Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks reported the following arrests:
—Peter Lund, 34, of Morgan City, was arrested at 4:35 a.m. today for attempted simple burglary of a vehicle.
Police were dispatched to a residence on McDermott Drive in regard to someone attempting to break into a vehicle. When officers arrived, the victim stated that a man was pulling on the handle of a vehicle.
A description of the suspect was given to officers by the victim. Officers located Lund, who fit the description, in the area of Justa Street, Banks said. Lund admitted to pulling on the vehicle door handle, Banks said. Lund was jailed.
—Charles Brown, 30, of Morgan City, was arrested at 9:17 a.m. Tuesday for safety belt use, and operating a vehicle with a suspended license.
While on patrol in the area of Sixth and Arenz streets, police observed a driver operating a vehicle without a safety belt harness. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, Brown, was asked to produce a valid driver’s license. Officers learned that Brown’s license was under suspension. Brown was jailed.
—Jessica Duhon, 32, of Morgan City, was arrested at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia, a warrant for possession of Schedule II Oxycodone/Hydrocodone and a warrant for possession of Schedule IV Alprazolam. Duhon turned herself in and was jailed.
—Tremayne Skinner, 38, of Morgan City, was arrested at 5:34 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant from Thibodaux Police Department for stalking. Police were contacted by the Thibodaux Police Department about an outstanding warrant held for Skinner. Skinner was located on Railroad Avenue and jailed.
—Joann Robinson, 50, of Morgan City, was arrested at 8:21 p.m. Monday for disturbing the peace intoxicated
—James Follins, 61, of Morgan City, was arrested at 8:21 p.m. Monday for disturbing the peace intoxicated.
Police were dispatched to a residence on Fourth Street in regards to a disturbance. When officers arrived, they noticed that Follins and Robinson were screaming profanities at each other and both appeared to be very intoxicated. Follins and Robinson were jailed.
—Bryanshekia Harris, 27, of Patterson, was arrested at 3:05 a.m. today on a warrant for theft of goods under $500.
Police came into contact with Harris in the area of La. 182 and Seventh Street, who was wanted on outstanding warrants. Harris was jailed.
—Lakendrick Chambers, 24, of Berwick, was arrested at 7 a.m. today on a warrant for failure to appear for trial on criminal damage to property. Chambers was already incarcerated in the Morgan City Jail when another outstanding warrant was found. Chambers continues to be incarcerated.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Demetrius Green, 26, of the 100 block of Mill Road in Patterson, was arrested at 7:26 p.m. Tuesday for disturbing the peace by language. Green was released on $307 bail.
—Lance Toups, 42, of the 2700 block of Second Street in Berwick, was arrested at 6:55 p.m. Monday for unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling. Toups was released on bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
